All this talk of courgettes in pots is making me wonder if I could grow some indoors by my juliette balcony
well done on the money shufflingDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Ooh I wonder if you could LaPlan - I wonder if the pollination might be an issue though? I seem to recall that courgettes have both male and female flowers but you might need to manually pollinate them?
You will all be pleased to hear that MrEH has indeed got the first log-in stuff sorted, so at least he can now use the online banking for that organisation. PiP he did indeed pay out of his own money in the first instance, but as he has made efforts to get things sorted (it takes time to deal with a change of linked account, and his was still set as our old joint account) I have taken pity on him and transferred the money out of the savings.
Foxgloves I need to check back when we have dealt with beans previously - we're just doing runners this year I think (Polestar, IIRC) although I may yet cave and buy some borlotti as well as those were always a favourite. We will be growing ours up the nice metal obelisk that my parents bought us as a 20th wedding anniversary present, with additional canes attached to form a frame.
Well the solar / battery may have hit a snag as they have now said that there isn't sufficient space in the back to install the canopy that would be needed for an outside installation. They are talking about installing at the front being possible, but we're concerned about that essentially from a visual perspective - but also that it will mean I'll need to get rid of my bike as there will be nowhere to store it, and also that the bins won't be able to live where they currently do... minor issues, but problematic nonetheless. There are a few remaining options - but notably it would be looking like we might need to move down to a smaller battery which wasn't the solution that our sums were based on! Hmmm. Will have to give the whole thing a lot more thought, once they've provided some further info. At the moment one solution they are offering (for the front) is two smaller batteries "for the same price as the larger one" but they'll need to do better than that as that would give us a lot less storage capacity!
MSE Stuff:
- We are pretty much in the quiet-zone at the moment - a bit of interest to drop in on savings, the CT to go out on Monday, the broadband bill a bit after that, and the usual spending on Diesel, MrEH's Oyster etc to come through the month, but that's about it.
- Food-wise I'm going to do pasta tonight - I've got a couple of cooked sausages out of the freezer to go with that, and it will just be a simple sauce with soft cheese and pesto I think.
- got a load of washing done and finished first thing so that went out to the line before we left home this morning - hopefully will be bone dry by the time we get home!
- MrEH's car is booked in for first thing tomorrow to have a headlamp bulb changed.
- I need to put together the meal plan ready for shopping tomorrow
Garden jobs for tomorrow will include getting another lot of spinach and cut and come again salad leaves sown as well - I might need to go and buy a couple of cheap troughs for those, although I'll have a dig through the shed and see what else we might have first. Those toms didn't get re-potted yesterday evening, and won't this evening (as we're going to meet at the pub for a quick beer before heading home) so those will need doing as well.

Very decent of you to transfer the money 😁
That's irritating about the solar panels, hopefully they'll be able to offer further solutions. Bit of a cheek magnanimously offering the same price for less storage!
Enjoy your beer, as ever this month, don't forget your vouchers 😂5 -
Vouchers are in my bag already - and I'm hoping MrEH also picked himself some of the new issue up too - in fact, I must check with him!
And yes - I agree about the cheek on the offer from the 8 legged solar folks. Especially as our sales chap had already acknowledged that the two x smaller batteries delivered a good chunk less capacity than one larger one!🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Great photos - they really capture the colour and energy of the planes.
we are planning to go and see Just Jane the Lancaster bomber that is being restored in Lincolnshire. My dad was in Bomber Command and worked as a flight engineer on Lancasters. I really want to be able to see an example of the plane that he talks so much about. It's possible to pay to go on it when it taxis down the runway but it's hideously expensive - still thinking about doing it though as a once in a lifetime connection to dad.7 -
Love the photos.
I plant my courgettes straight in the ground late April/early May. Have had a lot of success in previous years but last year was a disaster. I’ll give it another go this year though.January spends - £587.585 -

I hope they find a better solution on the battery as displacing bins and your bike don't sound the best option either. Enjoy gardening.Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

I often see my dad with a feather trying to pollinate his tomatoes so maybe the courgettes may be worth a go...
Annoying re the solar power - maybe a large battery is more importance than moving bins etc ??DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
