I agree about school holidays. When I go shopping, I like to go early, and its so much easier when I don't have loads of parked cars around schools to contend with. There seem to be a lot on my route from home to the shops...lol

Hope MR EH gets the log in sorted. It does help when they have something to focus on.
Lucky with the courgettes surviving the night. The solar install has moved fast. Possibly thinking about it here.

Great photos, @EH. Reminded me a little of my childhood, as with Dad in the RAF, we sometimes saw flying displays at events he was involved with.
Re courgettes, yes, they will grow in large pots. I even used to have one in an old plastic laundry basket, which I lined with old compost sacks. I do grow them in the ground now, but that's because I have the space. If we were to resume growing leeks or sweetcorn, then some courgettes may have to resort to containers. I haven't sown my courgettes yet. My method is to sow courgettes & squash on my Dad's birthday (mid-April) & beans on mine (a couple of weeks later) & that always seems to work. However this year, with having a holiday at an inconvenient time in the veggie-grower's year, I am going to sow them as soon as we get back. I don't put the young plants out until the end of May...even first week of June for the beans if the weather is looking un-summery & grim.....so my thinking is that they will soon catch up. I already have a lot of plants for which survival when we are away will be a bit of an issue, so I thought I could at least mitigate potential problems for newly emerged squashes, courgettes & beans by sowing when they will then have my usual full attention. Mr F is wanting to build the bean frame/teepee this weekend, so that will at least give me plenty of time either to install a bean trench for scraps, or do plenty of comfrey chop & drop.
Good luck with all your veggie growing plans - I know you were really looking forward to having a garden again.

  • If MrEH would rather pay for roofing out of his personal spends that is entirely his choice 😁

I'm mildly annoyed I bought the new laptop to keep at Mr PIP's just before we had the offer of moving into family friends flat, the laptop will keep and mine is very old, but I activated the free one year Microsoft Office Package and probably (hopefully) won't be using the darn thing in that time! I will really resent paying additional money to be able to actually use the thing I've already spent money on. Such a modern day rip-off
