January is definitely good to have as a set up month, and it sounds like you are standing yourself in good stead for the rest of the year 😊beanielou said:Improving health & wealth are both excellent.Cornish_mum said:Great month Fortune! Thanks guys. It does feel more productive and positive when written down 😆 And I'm feeling really proud of myself for making health a priority instead of letting other things take precedence.

Going Backwards 🥾🥾
We all went for a brisk, one mile walk around the field again this morning. I did well and kept up the pace whilst Mr F did most of the circuit walking backwards and still keeping ahead of me 😆
I didn't fancy much for breakfast this morning so had sour dough toast and marmalade. Lunch was Chunky Cheddar & Celeriac Soup with breadmaker, wholemeal bread and butter. The recipe calls for 200g of cheddar but you really don't need this much and I halved the amount. Supper was supposed to be a meatball curry but I didn't take the mince out of the freezer in time so we had Blue Cheese Gnocchi instead.
I chased up the plumber this morning as it's becoming increasingly difficult to coax the boiler into life. We are 'on the whiteboard' apparently. He's asked for prices from the wholesaler and will get back to us in a few days.
Also chased the window company and they are coming out to quote next week.
Mr F pulled out of a job today. The client still hasn't given us correct terms of reference or a contract and we're only two weeks away from delivery. They've also negotiated us down on cost and overall time involved several times over the last month and now say they won't pay for premium economy for a 10 hour flight. We just don't need it. The timeline is too short now as we have existing client commitments to honour so will be super stressed. Plus Mr F can stay in the UK and earn more than they're now intending to pay so we have politely declilned. People are very surprised when we turn down work - I think this particular client felt that they held all the cards and could beat us up on price.
We'll have three further invoices to submit by the end of the week. Still no sign of the two outstanding invoices but, if they have been scheduled for payment, I should find out tomorrow.
We've booked to go to the theatre on Friday. It's to see a show that Mr F liked the look of and at a venue we haven't been to before so that will be an adventure.
Happy Tuesday all

So glad he declined that work. He didn't stop working for the last employer to have to deal with this rubbish with his own business.

Absolutely BM - I started to feel a bit worried about it last week and we both felt relieved when he declined the work today. Next time we'll know the how to manage things better. We'll give the rate for the job, the time involved and travel requirements and, if that doesn't fit the clients wants or budget we'll decline straight away.

That sounds like a very wise decision all round. Good to know where your boundaries are, it makes things much easier to deal with later.5

I love the idea that Jan is a setup month - nice reframing especially as I have done half of what I wanted to do !DON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Good decision! If you don't need the work there's no reason to accept substandard terms. This is the whole point of going it alone!Start mortgage date: August 2022; Start mortgage amount: £240,999; Original mortgage free date: August 2056
