Free trees and the contracts - brilliantDON'T BUY STUFF (from Frugalwoods)
No seriously, just don’t buy things. 99% of our success with our savings rate is attributed to the fact that we don’t buy things... You can and should take advantage of discounts.... But at the end of the day, the only way to truly save money is to not buy stuff. Money doesn’t walk out of your wallet on its own accord.

Crumpet 😉
In my quest to avoid UPF, I made crumpets for the first time yesterday 🥳 Most were too big with a scarcity of holes, but, by the last batch, I'd figured out how thick the batter needed to be, the right hob termperature and how high to fill the crumpet rings. All were delicious, however, and we had two each for lunch, hot from the pan and dripping with butter (followed by a piece of fruit to give some semblance of a nutricious meal 😆). How different they tasted from shop bought too. They are a bit of a faff to make but worth the effort. I used this recipe (had to thin the batter a bit) which we had for breakfast this morning.
Supper was Indian Masala Roast Carrots with naan bread. There's enough left over for a meal today too 🙂
I got a few chores done but went off plan after a conversation with Mr F about our business bank account. We have been trying to open an account with one of the new digital banks, however, the application process is all through an app and there's no one to ask questions of if you get stuck. They wanted so much information, including a copy of a signed client contract. which we've only just got. Anyhoo, I uploaded a copy of the contract a few days ago and have heard nothing since and there's no one to ask about the progress of the applicaiton. Which started to worry me. What if something went wrong? What if fraud occurred? Would I be able to get help if I needed it? A quick interweb search brought up lots of horror stories of accounts being closed or frozen arbitrarily or fraud occurring, leaving people in desperate straits unable to get a reply from the bank. So... we applied for an account with a high street bank which was quite straightforward. They won't be perfect I'm sure and the costs will be higher at some point (although the first 30 months are free). However, at least you can get to speak to someone in an emergency. We'll probably end up with two accounts now but, if that happens, I'll close the one with the digital bank. We do need an account soon as we might actuallly get paid something before the end of the year 😁
One of our light switches failed yesterday so Mr F popped out to town to pick up another this morning. At least he was able to fix it himself which saved us calling in an electrician.
I spent the evening preparing for the Writing Group and Book Club meetings which are coming up in the next few weeks. I also decided on a design for this year's Christmas Cake. I wasn't sure if I was going to make one this year as it's only the two of us but I enjoy doing it and it's become a bit of a tradition. We've got friends coming for New Year so they can help to eat it up. Mr F was quite keen on the idea 😆 I'll probably make it at the weekend.
The sun is out and it's dry today thank goodness... I suspect not for long but it will be lovely while it lasts.
I hope the sun is shining on you too 🌞

What happened there?
Friday got off to a good start. I walked FDawg with Mr F, did an hour's Tai Chi and got some admin done in the morning. Lunch was the leftover Masala Carrots. I started doing some housework in the afternoon but about 3.00pm suddently felt overwhelmingly tired and had to stop mid-way and go to bed 😲 I also had an episode of uncontrollable shivering and aches 😲 It only lasted for a few hours and I feel fine this morning.so I don't know what happened there. I wonder if I've been exposed to Covid again but, as I've only just had it, my immune system has kicked it into touch.
Anyhoo, Mr F did a good job of looking after me and, as we'd had a big meal at lunchtime, sorted out some cheese and pickle sandwiches for our supper (so nice having home-made bread in the freezer to call upon).
We'd planned a relaxed weekend so I can take it easy just in case.
Hope your weekend's going well all

Thank you guys for your get well wishes 🥰 I was absolutely fine when I woke up yesterday morning - it's weird but welcome 😆
I had a far more productive day but not the indulgent, weekend day I'd planned. Having abandoned housework half-way through I finished the room I was working on and did the rest of the chores I'd planned for yesterday but wasn't able to complete.
Lunch was Sausage & Leek Mash Pie which I'd promised Mr F 💌 and supper was Spiced Squash, Apple & Cider Soup with rye bread (Mr F was gifted two bottles of cider by one of the other participants on his coppicing course). I used chard instead of kale in the pie as we still have some in the veg patch and the apple in the soup was one of the cookers from the orchard.
Last night, we went to a folk music concert at a local venue. It was a charity event and a friend had been selling tickets so we thought we'd give it a try. Some of the music was great and I loved this lady. Some hurt our ears 😲 Mr F couldn't face sitting through the bad to hear the good and, at the interval, retired to the pub next door. I joined him there with some friends after. £10 each with £2 spent on raffle tickets and that incuded a glass of wine and buffet food. Mr F had a couple of beers in the pub. So an inexpensive night out and it gave us plenty to talk about 😂
Mr F has gone off to join a hiking group this morning and I'm intending to paint and sew and not do much else 😁
Happy Sunday all
