We have a gate which we can lock with a key, we sometimes lock it overnight.
My sister's gate has a number pad.
We purposely leave our front door squeaky so we can hear when it is opened. Our front door is not visible from the road or by our neighbours, so we feel this is extra protection/deterrent.

Have you considered an outside security light triggered by motion to deter the random men lingering about by the entrance to your house? They wouldn't want to be lit up doing whatever they shouldn't be doing!

Isn't the front door quite near where people would pass, if so it could be on an awful lot & be quite annoying.

We're having outside lights so we can see!
The front doors are set back from the street @badmemory hence us wanting a gate to separate our little area from the pavement

Totally agree with the need for a gate but unless you are 4 or 5 metres back from that gate a light could turn out to be a major pain. Especially if there is any wildlife & I include cats. There used to be a couple out all night round here & the lights were on & off all the time. I finally only turned mine on when I needed to go out in the dark.

An Easter egg to review. How fantastic.

We'll check about the electrics set-up @badmemory, thanks for flagging. I can cope with on and off lights for foxes, they caterwaul (or foxerwaul) enough in the night round here so should get used to it quick enough

There's a good amount of time till I have to put review in @beanielou so I might save it for Easter weekend and suggest it's mine and Mr PIP's shared gift 😁
