That’s dire about the meat moussaka I would be mortified. I once sent back a vegetarian shepherd’s pie in a cafe because I was convinced it had meat in it. It was actually Quorn 😬 Apart from Quorn mince I can’t eat pretend meat, it’s the whole texture thing as well as the look and taste. I haven’t eaten meat for around 38 years and when I did eat it I only ate chicken, minced beef and beef burgers. I still eat fish but it has to be completely free of skin and bones and completely unrecognisable as ever once being a fish 😆

That’s interesting about the plant based meats though and very positive after some negative press recently.

Thank you for sharing that article. I am inevitably eating some of the plant based meat ‘bung in the oven’ options as I am so time-poor. This makes me feel less bad about it.

I'd have eaten your moussaka for you! Seriously though - quite right to complain - that could have been someone with an allergy for example, and does go to show that they're not being as scrupulous as they should on checking what is being sent doesn't it.

Congrats on the PB win too - unsurprisingly I got nothing again this month, but then again as we now have *almost* nothing left in PBs, and most of what we DO have are previous winnings, I'm not going to complain!

  • That’s interesting about the plant based meat @PennysIntoPounds.  I’m not much of a fan as some of the fakes are so good they mess with my head and I think I’m eating meat (exactly as you say @Sun_Addict ) but I know lots of people find them really useful so good to have positive news.  I was persuaded to try a G*eggs vegan sausage roll last year when I was with a colleague in London and I hated it.  But when in Cornwall last summer we went to a wonderful vegan restaurant and I had a burger - it tasted amazing and just like the real thing but I couldn’t get over that and left half. I thought it would have more veg in it.

I wonder if the vege shepherd's pie was actually labelled as Quorn? I'm actually allergic to Quorn (as I believe many others are). I only ate it twice, when I ate it the first time I just thought I had a tummy bug. I ate it again a few weeks later & was violently ill. I've not touched it since! KA

I have to be careful with pea protein products e.g. Toscos plant based sausages, as they can give me stomach cramps, which is quite common with pea protein apparently.
