O/S Daily Thread for Saturday 22nd Dec

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for 22/12/07. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning All

Hope we are well. I woke up feeling a little sick! But I think it may be down to me eating my dinner pretty quick last night. Just hope the lurgy hasn't seeped through the walls from dlb's house.

I hope the kids are fine dlb, and fingers crossed you dont get the bug!
(((hugs))) to Penny Pincher - hope your feeling better soon.

Had to deliver my neice & 2 nephews Xmas tokens last night. I thought I was doing well with getting organised, I forgot them! OH qued for me in the Game shop in town for 35mins yesterday to buy the gift cards! There was rumours they had some nintendo wii's in, thats why it got busy!

Todays plans will be a general tidy up, kids will be with their dad for the weekend from this afternoon. (exOH has still not acknowledged if he's having the kids Xmas day) and I probably wont know either until the day comes.
Bake a carrot cake, and then a night at my boss's house for our Xmas party! She's had a whole house makeover, new kitchen, conservatorty, decor, bathroom, fire, etc.... so I think I may get rather drunk and be ill on the new carpets! :D (that'll teach her to show off)

Oh dear! DS has just gotten up for the loo, he's now complaining of stomach ache!

Right best be off, catch you all later
Love Emma xxx

  • Good morning Emma, and Pam Mix - I see you lurking ;) and to everyone who follows on  Up at silly o'clock again. Don't know why - I had a late night, a couple of glasses of wine, but not too many, and I have everything sorted for Christmas. Thought I'd sit here with a cup of tea, pay for an e-Bay item that I won in the early hours, and then try and get a few more hours.

Have a short list of tasks for today, including decorating the :xmastree: and icing the :bdaycake: then a party tonight.
Pen Pin - good luck for Monday :T
    Happy Birthday to MRSMCAWBER :bdaycake:

Have a great day, Penny. x

    Morning
Can sympathise with those feeling a little off colour. I know I have the beginnings of something feeling a little more vacant than usual, sniffly, sore throat, but as they say, children get colds, men get the flu and women get on with it.

Just thankful I don't have to be anywhere, pick anyone up or drop off !

The ironing is going to be done today, I think I'll make that my main target anything else will be a bonus.

Going to search the board for something interesting to do with the sprouts next week, quite like Asdas sage butter suggestion, but the bacon seems a nice contrast too.

Hope you all have a productive day.

    Happy Birthday Mrs McCawber.
I hope your DD is progressing well Ivyleaf.
I'm glad to see they sorted out your bloods PenPin. You must be sooooooo relieved to be home again. I'm lucky that I get advanced notice of my hospital stays so I can plan ahead. (next one in 4 weeks  )
    Welcome back Loumac.
    Shez....Mmmmm. Mince pies. :D

I don't know why I'm up at silly o'clock when I didn't go to bed until 2am. I'm really not getting enough sleep and it's catching up on me.
Today should be reasonably quiet. Need to make my mince pies, do a bit of ironing and a few last minute bits from the shops. Christmas dinner is practically organised. I made a stuffing roll last night which is in the freezer with all the prepped veg and pigs in blankets so I should be able to spend less time in the kitchen on Tuesday. ;)
I have a friend coming up for coffee (and prezzies) and 1ish and the girls have their little friend coming for the afternoon.
I still haven't made OH's fudge and all the other stuff I made is gone so I may add that to the list. Tomato soup is in the SC for tea.

Hope everyone is well and warm.

    Take care

    Haribo x

Edited to add. Welcome back Tilly. I am so sorry to hear about your mum. x
  • :D Hi everyone,
Crumbs it has been months since I was last here - been lurking so I have kept a little up to date.
I sit here on the first day of the holiday all bought - just needs wrapping and baking etc. We are going to my brothers for Chirstmas dinner as we lost Mum three weeks ago and as I had nursed her my lovely SIL said that she would cook for us all - poor thing doesn't know what she has let herself in for - I normally cook for us - feels like half the globe sometimes!! But it will be different for us to go there, it is too soon after Mum for us to be totally 'normal' again. Everyone coming around Boxing Day instead.
OH and I have been talking about getting a dog for some time, but decided to wait for a while.
Yesterday someone told me about a Retriever Rescue organisation - so I called yesterday to put our names down on what I had been told was a very long waiting list - only for the woman to tell me that she had a 16 month old called Sam who had just come in and was looking for a little family like ours!!
So I found myself being interviewed on the phone and making an appointment to go and meet Sam at 3pm today
That was a very interesting conversation with OH!!!
So at completely the wrong time of year, we may be getting a dog!!
We have had a Retriever before but he died 5 years ago and I was too upset to replace him - 17 years is a long time to have a dog. But we thought that it may do the kids good to have something else to think about than how Nan isn't with us this Christmas (she lived with us because she was disabled and the kids are missing her). The walks will also do my waistline good - it is expanding in direct relationship to the shrinking of our debts, thanks to the wonderful recipes on here!!!
We've checked out that Lidl sell dog food, so Sam can be MSE as well!!

So I'm sitting here very excited - haven't said anything to the kids - won't until we actually meet him, see if he likes us, and we take him home. I'm now not sure when I'm going to wrap or bake now as I can see that all of our time is going to be taken up welcoming the dog.;)

So please don't work too hard everyone, how many Christmases have we spoiled for ourselves by working too hard for everyone else and we've been too tired to enjoy?
Take care to everyone on here and all who follow.
    MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone.
    Love
    Tilly
    xx

    Morning Everyone

Another silly o'clocker though just logged on here. Just not tired:confused:

    Birthday Wishes MrsMcCawber

TD mended so caught up with the washing, and set to at 9.50 pm last night to do the ironing so it was done, only took half an hour. We've been working round the house so haven't been wearing ironing clothes:j

DS decided to wait until 6 am today to set off home (hope he's up and on his way now) as he had an opticians appointment here at 12.05:rolleyes: Family get together/party (for those who join in not many) today so I see GNeice and GNephews here to give them their pressies before Xmas. They have enough Xmas Day., and to celebrate DS's Graduation with the family. Thinking of nipping to Asda and getting him a photo cake with his Graduation Piccy on - it will nicely embarrass him and the little ones will love it!

Sat here trying to sort out the HDD recorder putting things onto DVD's so I have space to record Xmas things, but looks like I have a duff DVD, having to copy some stuff back to HDD to then put it back to another DVD - as if I needed that! Its taking a long time to get it back to HDD so looks like that is a problem!

Got to the hairdressers yesterday and had a new hairstyle, and lost the twinklies IYKWIM. Was going to get my nails done but didn't even manage to phone them up to see if they had a chance:o .

(((hugs))) to all particularly the poorlies and the poorlies lo's. Mrs_Mix - Pen-Pin put your feet up.

    Take care

Morning all. (((Hugs))) to all those feeling as if they are going down with something.

    Happy Birthday MRS MCAWBER!

CRAZY - hope you haven't caught the DLBs; MRSMIX - thank goodness your DH was with you. Try and take it easy today - easier said than done, I know. My cold is not as bad as yours but the cough has kept me awake for the last three nights and now I feel exhausted; I have loads still to do because I'm collecting my Mum tomorrow morning so I only have today to sort out her room and, at the moment, it's full of half-wrapped pressies! I thought I'd finished my food shopping but I forgot just one thing yesterday, even though it was on my list - milk powder for the HM bread! I'll get that when I head off for Mum's tomorrow.

Today I must clean my oven and hob but it will only get a quick 'once-over' now - not the in-depth clean I had planned. DH is going to change the sheets, dust and hoover upstairs - that's after he has finally replaced the broken loo seat! - and do the ironing for me, so that takes some of the burden away. What irritates me at this time of year is having to think about all the other meals - the focus always seems to be on the 'big day' but we all have to eat before and after, don't we, and that takes some planning. I'm doing a chicken dish in the SC tomorrow so that it will be ready when we come back with Mum, and today I'm going to make a massive stew for us to have this evening and then to be reheated on Christmas eve. It means a lot of food prepping this morning but it will shorten the time spent standing at the cooker!

I also have a couple of letters I must get written and in the post before Christmas so I must get those done today.

Well - the Strictly final is tonight and I can't wait. For the first time, I don't know who I'd vote for. If it was up to me they would both win - I've really enjoyed this year's and shall miss it once it's finished, but that's one of the reasons why I watch that and not something like X-Factor (which I've tried to watch but always end up turning off!). Once Strictly has finished, it's finished until the following year. It is simply just about the winning, there is no contract as the top prize so the whole saga doesn't go on for ever and ever afterwards. It seems, with the X-Factor, that someone wins it and is never heard of again, despite the fact that there is supposed to be a contract - I don't know why they get so desperate to win it. Perhaps I'm missing something?

Anyway, enough waffle - I'd better go and have my shower. I'll see you all later. Hope all the poorly LOs are feeling better; thinking of you PENPIN and wish you well for Monday.

    KathyXX

Edited - I've just read TILLYTRIPPIT's post - massive (((hugs))) to you on your very sad loss; I do hope you and Sam like each other and that you can bring him home; it does seem as if you are meant to be together, doesn't it?
