Sarah, Thank you again for sharing your experience. I agree a 100% about investing in a foundation and a mascara.
It would be helpful if we can have sub-headings like foundation, lipstick, perfume, etc ...so as to make this thread an easier read :D

Fave mascara - Boots No 7 Intense Volume waterproof or Max Factor Masterpiece Waterproof. Have tried so many different brands, including the new Estee Lauder doublewear mascara sample, but these are the only 2 mascaras that don't smudge or flake on me & I can wear them to the gym! Mind you the Max Factor one is nearly impossible to clean off afterwards!

Eye Shadows - Revlon long lasting, Lancome, Bourjois (colours great, although crease by end of day even if use eye primer)

Eye Liner - Lancome, & Rubie & Millie pencils. Have some really ancient block eyeliner which is brilliant for that 50's look. Never see block eyeliner anymore.

Lips - cannot wear any lipstick at all - dries & makes my lips go itchy & flaky. Use Clinique glosswear - not too shiny, just right. Don't like Juicy Tubes or the YSL shiny one.

My big problem is finding a foundation - I was an Estee Lauder user, but over the past 2 months have started to become sensitive to their foundations (have tried 3 of them) & Daywear plus moisturiser, so have had to chuck all :( .
Can anyone recommend a brand that suits cool, pale, pink tones? Used to wear No 7 but they have changed their colours. Tried the new radiance one (the one they are currently giving the free concealer with) & the New Ivory shade was pale yellow on me! Also tried the Maybelline ones after reading this thread, but again all too yellow. Have ordered some Lily Lilo mineral samples. Got the Bobbi Brown counter to colour match me, but I looked like a ghost afterwards - not a nice look!

Skincare - just ordered lots of Liz Earle samples. Looking forward to trying.

If you are sensitive Prescriptives are very good, if you go to a counter they will give you a full consultation with proper colour matching to get the tone just right.

i was having the same problem but i just bought the clinique almost powder compact and it is fab!
it is quite sheer and for me blends really well. and it is light too so doesnt irritate my skin
i have pale skin with slightly pink cheeks so we sound like same kind of colouring. i got light but the lady on the counter can help you pick a shade

That is my skintone. I used to wear Estee Lauder as well but have switched to Christian Dior Diorskin Eclat Satin - Moisture Release. Colour is 200. Its not cheap but is brill and has lasted for absolutely ever!

sparepenge/h007 - I have the same issue with foundation (the skintone thing, not the sensitivity thing). The palest shade in most ranges is beige-toned, and the palest pink-toned one is usually too dark.

I do find Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse in 001 - Ivory looks beige-toned but is actually very neutral and suits my skin tone very well.

I wonder why it is that you tend to have to go for the pricier brands to find a match for fair, pink-toned skin

And don't even get me STARTED on the colours tights come in...

    Sparepenge,

I have the same problem with lipstick. Have been wearing the clinique buttershine, but this still leaves me with slightly dry itchy lips. Is the glosswear better?

    Thanks Claire

Yes the glosswear is brilliant. It is the only lipgloss I've found I can wear, it doesn't taste fruity (which I hate) & the colours look nice (I use "tenderheart" for a neutral - I noticed that it's no longer on the Boots website so I hope it hasn't been discontinued!)
It used to be better when it came in a pot with a brush, now it's in a tube/wand, which means I end up cutting the tube in half when it gets empty as don't want to waste what's left in the bottom!

Also have problems with lip balm, currently using the Blistex healing one & have ordered the liz earle one to try.

Ooh- fab thread! I have a few 'hero' products!

-Foundation I always wear Clinique Superpowder Double Face Powder in Matte Beige. I also swear by Touche Eclat, although I have just bought the No 7 version of this to try when my Touche runs out as a friend recommended it as a cheaper alternative.

-Mascara- I was a Lancome Hypnose devotee, but at £18 a pop I've been looking for an alternative and am very pleased to have found Max Factor Masterpiece.

-Lips I vary a bit- I really like the Clinique Superbalm as it is so moisturising and gives a very natural shine. For a more obvious look I use No 7 liner and Clarins Gloss.

Skincare- I adore Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish, and also her toner and light moisturiser. I favour these over Clinique or Clarins which I used previously. I also love Elizabet Arden 8 Hour range. The original cream is great on lips, dry patches or as an instant highlighter on the cheek bones. The body cream is the richest and most moisturising body lotion I have found, and the hand cream is also amazing. Rather pricy for body care though, I must admit!

Other than that, I'm a complete tart and will but whatever has the shade I fancy, is on offer or has the best free gift. For eyeshadow and blusher in particular, I believe the secret is good brushes and a good appliucation technique as much as the actual product!

    Hi all,

Was thinking about trying Elemis papaya enzyme peel to kick-start my skin and Estee Lauder advanced night repair protective recovery complex (the one in the brown bottle) to feed/nourish it. Also tempted by Decleor neroli oil. Dame that In-Style booklet 100 Best Beauty Buys – it’s costing me a fortune! Still, good fun though ain’t it? ;)

I totally forgot Elemis in my reply- I use the Papaya Enzyme Peel and love it. I bought an Elemis set when I had a facial at Center Parcs and the Papaya mask is my favourite product. It does deep clean your face, but is gentle at the same time. I struggle to find face masks that don't make my skin sore, but this is lovely. I'll definitely buy it again.

The skin bliss capsules are also amazing, but pricy so I probably won't buy those again!
