I do prefer to travel independently not being a fan of package holidays. I like to book my own flights and accommodation. I would only hire a car in a country where they drive on the same side as us. I will get to work. I do have a preference for BA when flying and their holidays offer quite good value.

I love planning travel. It's almost as exciting as actually going.

Great travel plans you have there.  I agree with you about not going in school holidays.  We have just spent a week away with family and obviously being the Easter holidays it is much more expensive but any trips with our grandchildren and daughters have to be done then to fit in with work and school.  When we travel on our own we tend to stick to May, June, September or October although we did do Cyprus in November last year which was lovely.

School holiday prices are ridiculous. I'm so looking forward to going out of school holiday times once I'm retired. It can often be £600 cheaper for a 2 week holiday.

If you reach New Zealand plan for more than a few days if you can. My eldest DS lives there and it’s the most amazing, calm, beautiful country in the world.
