The Senior Wonder Years!

I do prefer to travel independently not being a fan of package holidays. I like to book my own flights and accommodation. I would only hire a car in a country where they drive on the same side as us. I will get to work. I do have a preference for BA when flying and their holidays offer quite good value.

Looking forward to hearing about your travel plans. I enjoy reading your diary by the way 😀1

Thank you @cbexec. I am now considering some alternative uses for the money and thinking about where I really want to visit lol!Plans for this year are already fixed. Next week a short trip to Shropshire, May, a week in Cyprus, June, school reunion in London, September, university reunion in Canterbury and also a 5 day trip to Malta. The Shropshire and Cyprus trips are fully paid for and spending money allocated. The London reunion will come out of regular personal spends. The Canterbury and Malta trips probably need a further £1500 which we’ll be in place by August.Looking ahead to 2025 I have the one week Northern Europe Cruise booked in November. This will need another £1400 funding which includes everything plus spending. I would also like to spend 4 days in Dubrovnik and maybe another week’s break in Cyprus. I can budget for these comfortably from this September onwards. I doubt they will need the full annual allocation.
Looking further ahead to 2026, I have a vague plan of flying around the world making maybe 5 or so stops. I was thinking of places like Singapore, an Australian city, New Zealand, a Pacific Island and Vancouver. I was pleasantly surprised how economical the fare would be. Literally thousands and thousands less than a cruise. This would be my ‘lifetime trip’. I would content to stay for only a few days in each place. After that who knows lol! Just an idea at the moment, but it appeals to me very much and is doable for me in financial terms. At today’s prices it would be less than £10000, which includes everything.
The plan is forming and taking shape lol! 😉7 -

Great travel plans you have there. I agree with you about not going in school holidays. We have just spent a week away with family and obviously being the Easter holidays it is much more expensive but any trips with our grandchildren and daughters have to be done then to fit in with work and school. When we travel on our own we tend to stick to May, June, September or October although we did do Cyprus in November last year which was lovely.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. School holiday prices are ridiculous. I'm so looking forward to going out of school holiday times once I'm retired. It can often be £600 cheaper for a 2 week holiday.0

If you reach New Zealand plan for more than a few days if you can. My eldest DS lives there and it’s the most amazing, calm, beautiful country in the world.2
