I also had the letter asking me to apply for my state pension, which I have done. Very quick and efficient online. It can't have taken more than 2 minutes!
Don't forget your bus pass, which needs to be applied for via the local authority! Even if you don't feel your local services are reliable, it can be handy on holiday.
I haven't been on a bus in years lol. I'll stick to my car for now. Thanks for the reminder though.
Fair enough: I avoid buses as much as I can (because the service here is so dire), but I have used them in London, and they are useful in identifying you as entitled to discounts in some settings. Usually people just look at us and give the discount, but maybe one day if I'm on my own someone will want to check.
Signature removed for peace of mind
  • Currently on holiday myself.  Amazing how many retired people are here, some for 3 weeks, some on their 2nd/3rd holiday of the winter and I can see why.....3 weeks all inclusive for a couple for £1500 or so.

It's not luxurious but it's very clean and the amenities and food are fine.

I've just come off a cruise, where there were several retired couples doing back-to-backs, and one chap who'd been on there for 10 weeks.

Ooh Floss where did you go.  I'm very tempted but I'm already aiming to fit in a trip to Belguim to see family as well as planning to move house this year so I haven't booked any cruises for the time being,  Maybe I might be able to squeeze in a last minute short trip somewhere.

There are still a few big "bucket list" extended trips I want to do yet but the new house needs to come first.

Glad you are feeling better Baron,

@helensbiggestfan Iceland via Rotterdam & Orkney, should have had a day in the Faroes too but it was force 9/10 and the pilot boat couldn’t get alongside so we chugged off to Reykjavik and had a stormy sea day! Northern Lights were spotted at 5am on Sunday from a balcony cabin on the other side to me, and we passed the volcano around 8.30pm Friday while I was eating dinner 🙄🤦‍♀️

  • Hopefully, my cruise in November 2025 will be ok. I am trying again after hating every moment of my first cruise in October 2022.  :|

I have always liked the idea of a cruise but I get dreadfully seasick. When I was married I went on a warship family day around the Isle of Wight and had to lie down the whole trip 😆 Not good on ferries either 🤢

Hope you enjoy your cruise @[Deleted User]

I wasn't sure how I'd be as I go green in small boats, I was fine on the front-to-back storm but was a little uncomfortable during the side-to-side storm.

My mother has just returned from a cruise. She is seriously ill from an infection caught on board. She is banned from any future cruises. Yet had no issues on a Cunard cruise on the Queen Mary.
I am sure yours will be fine. ☺️
