Is it an unfair term that a contract has to be cancelled 30 days before the end?

If the only issue is forgetting then perhaps an entry in a diary or on a calendar might be helpful.
The issue is you can’t tell them a month or so before, it has to be under 30 days…. Why can’t I tell them 3 months before
…. Because you agreed to the terms set by the network. Just set a calendar reminder on your smartphone to alert you 30 days beforehand.

    Doesn’t mean it’s a term that’s fair.
What's fair got to do with it? It's the T&C's you agreed to.

If it's a 3 year deal then you've got a smart phone, ask someone to explain how to use the calendar app to give you a notification.

I think everybody is misunderstanding the OP here

what they are saying is as follows:

suppose for example I have a contract for 24 months that ends on the 31st of December

the contract says I can only give notice to end it 30 days beforehand i.e on the 30th of November

what the OP is saying is why can't I give notice on the 5th of July or 2 February that I want to end the contract on the 31st of December - why do I have to wait until 30 days beforehand before giving this notice
You were understanding until you stated a 6 or 11 month notice period….. I just think 30 days to notify them that I don’t wish to continue my 3 year contract past the initial contract is ideal.

For example I had an issue with Vodafone and made it clear I didn’t want to continue more than the contract. However I had to make a separate call a month or so later to official cancel it…. And of course I forgot….

Of course a lot of it relies on me not understanding what happens when a phone contract ends etc and my own admin etc,

You think apple phones are lasting 3 years lol

  • I don’t see why I can’t give three months notice that I want to end the contract at the end of the term.

Because that's not what is stated in the T&Cs.

It really doesn't matter why you can't see it.

You have some weird views, or are you just trying to be controversial?

Just because it’s stated in the T&C doesn’t mean it’s fair.

Not sure why you think it’s ok for companies to only allow 30 days - which is really two weeks to cancel the contract.

During which time you have to make sure it’s outside the billing period or they will bill another month

What do you mean by "outside the billing period"?

If you have phone service then you are inside a billing period, they are contiguous from the first period when the contract starts to the last one after the contract has been terminated.
