Is it an unfair term that a contract has to be cancelled 30 days before the end?

Options
I’ve got a 3 year contact and 3 will only let me notify them no sooner than 30 days before the end of the term.

Is that unfair?

No, they all do it, it's just a PITA when you can't get through to them to notify because their costumer service is diabolical. I had the same issue with O2

    Is that unfair?

If you don't want to be in a three year contract don't sign up for a three year contract.
    Plenty of other contracts.
  • Because it’s a three year contract, so if I want it to end on that date than why can’t I tell them before 30 days before the end of the contract?

  • They are giving me less than 3% of the contract length to cancel the contract or else I will be subject to extra time on the contract.

I don’t see why I can’t give three months notice that I want to end the contract at the end of the term.

    So exactly, unfair.

Weird comment. I want to give notice to end the contact without the clause of giving them less than 30 days notice.

How can it be a three year contract when these were outlawed by the EU and OFCOM over a decade ago??
I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂

I always have a little chuckle at people complaining that something "isn't fair" but only well after agreeing to a contract when it no longer suits them.

https://www.three.co.uk/termspdf/14437_Pay_Montly_TCs_Update_v11_11311.pdf - section 10 says the following, which I've parapharsed:

"You may end [your] agreement in the following ways:
    (a) In certain circumstances under our Returns Policy.
    (b) You can end the agreement during your Minimum Term (if you have one) by giving notice 30 days before the date you want to end the agreement. This will require paying charges and cancellation fees.
    (c) On 30 days’ notice, outside the Minimum Term.
    (d) Within one month of a materially detrimental variation to your agreement.
    (e) You will not be able to end the agreement during your Minimum Term without paying a Cancellation Fee if the variation to your agreement (which includes your Package, the Service or our prices) is due to any of the following circumstances (law changes, add-ons, not a material detriment or out of allowable allowances services if used."

Where does it say anywhere in there you cannot cancel early and that it has to 30 days before the end of your contract?  You could phone them up today and your 30 days notice would start today.

I think the real beef here is your being stung with early exit fees, because it says there you can go - if you pay them off.  That doesn't make it unfair.
