How does childcare cost work under UC with the  max of £1630.15?

Would it be a person could work minimum wage for 35 hours a week (£1580.36) and then that person could get £1630.15 to cover their childcare costs (more than they actually earnt)?

Or is there no UC due to earnings?
The childcare element is an extra element. It doesn't impact any other elements.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

It’s obvious some on here dot like talking about this but I don’t mind talking about the fact that this is messed up.

Real parents should spend time with their real children.

Something is wrong with society if children are always in child care and both parents are always working.

Im just trying to work out what is different to our parents and grandparents? It’s more than just saying inflation and cost of living crisis
Nobody is stopping real parents having time with their real children, I mean nobody is going to spend time with their fake children, right.

However the government, will not fund that lifestyle for you, end off. Not really anything more you can add, you want benefits, you have to meet the conditions of entitlement, fail to do so and face a sanction, unless you have a good reason or meet any of the criteria for not having to look for work etc.
But what is different? What has changed from our parents and grandparents time?

is it all because of inflation?

in our grandparents time it was very rare to have both parents working full time jobs and have kids always in childcare

In those times it was expected the woman would stay at home to do all the housework, because we didn't have all the helpful gadgets or convenience of modern-day life.  And wages haven't kept up with the cost of living.

I could be wrong but as far as I understand it used to be possible to buy a house and have three kids on one full-time wage - not minimum wage, but many people walked into a job after leaving school and progressed from there, so by the time they married and had a family they could afford to support it all on their own wage still.

But really this thread is pointless, if you dislike the policy then take it up with your MP, find charities who are campaigning against it, tell your communities - I have no doubt you'll find people support your view, but this is just the wrong site for it.  This board is for help with benefit entitlement, not discussing policy.

Tax Credit system (Labour) gave money to parents for children without obliging the parents to work. Universal Care (Conversative) treats every claimant including parents as a jobseeker (with exceptions).

The inflation is absolutely massive as it was only just raised in 2022. Now it’s almost doubling that’s around 100% inflation.

This is the second time the threshold has been raised. In September 2022, it was put up to the equivalent of 12 hours on the National Living Wage, at £494 per calendar month for single claimants and £782 per calendar month for couples. That rise affected 114,000 people.

I still don’t know how anyone with schoolchildren can have both parents working full time?

who does the school run in the morning and afternoon?
We both served in the Armed Forces, and then when the wife left, she worked full time.   Child minders did the school run when we couldn't due to work commitments.

    Its not so insurmountable…
Proud to have dealt with our debts

What if someone wants a really simple life and low stress min wage job?

rents need to fall to where min wage people can afford them without UC

yhe government pushed rents up by putting a subsidy on top now rents need to fall to where min wage workers can afford them out of their own pocket
