Have you not heard of alternating shifts? One works during the day one works during the evening and they have weekends together? Just as an example.
You make it sound easy, yes of course people can get hours in the night time for their chosen career.

real life just doesn’t work like that.

history has always been the father works full time works hard to provide enough to pay housing and living costs. The wife also works hard looking after the home and children doing the shopping and everything else involved in running a household.

now things have changed so much that the wife needs to work as well, the poor children are always in child care of some kind, it’s messed up.

History also had children working in factories and going up chimneys.
it may have escaped your notice, but women have careers nowadays.
thankfully we’ve moved on from the 50s.

I’m now out of this discussion, because as I said in my previous post, it’s about answering specific individual questions which you no longer seem to have.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

I can see many struggling families just not able to take on more hours they are already at the end of their tether.

They will keep explaining that to the job centre plus but they will be told they will have sanctions if they don’t show they are trying to work even more

People have to stay in the intensive work search group until their earnings reach the new minimum.

This means keep having to go to job centre and try to prove you are looking for better paid jobs or even more hours
Two people each working more than 24 hours a week is the norm for many families. And unless there are mitigating circumstances is not an unreasonable ask.
I’d quite like to work part time and possibly have my wages topped by the
government, but it’s not going to happen.

however, this forum is for support with individual circumstances, not rants about general policy. Your question has been answered. Do you have any other point specific to yourself that you need to ask?

We don’t yet have the details and the devil is in the details

Yes Im worried for my extended family and I expect for many many households in the UK, but let’s see how it will work in September

people have to rest and sleep

You are aware that many full time jobs are more than 35 hours a week for those of us not on UC, and we still manage to find time not only to rest and sleep, but also to care for families and have a social life?

Indeed. My daughter has 2 small children, eldest is 3. She works between 50-55 hours per week. Her partner works 40 hours a week. The only benefits they claim is child benefit. They still find time to look after the children, take them out and spend time together as a family.
That does not sound balanced to me. If she works 55 hours and her partner works 40 then who looks after the kids all day? Once they are old enough to go to school how do they get the kids to school and pick them up?

They don't always work the same hours. My daughter works shifts which include sleep in shifts. During the sleeps the partner has the children. My daughter also works some weekends and the partner doesn't. Sometimes when they are both at work at the same time family help out. They also qualify for 30 hours free child care for the eldest.

Yes back in the day the mother stayed home and the father worked but those days are long gone and a lot of people have no option but to work.

I'm out of this thread now because this forum is for help with benefits entitlement and not for rants.

It is a real problem for families with more than a few kids

not everyone can afford nannies if you are both on min wages

The way I can see these changes playing out is that all these working families struggling with school runs and working all hours they have available will also be asked to keep attendance up at the Job centres for these work focused interviews.

they will explain they can’t work those hours because they have to pick the kids up from school then they will get sanctioned for not taking the extra hours and then they will not be able to pay bills and housing costs

Come September some parents working upto 35hrs NMW will be told they have job search requirements now on top of work and looking after the kids

They will keep explaining that to the job centre plus but they will be told they will have sanctions if they don’t show they are trying to work even more
