They actually said that the next part of the crackdown from September UC claimants who earn the equivalent of 35hrs NMW will be required to increase their earnings?????
I have never heard that suggested.
Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.

The Government confirmed to Birmingham Live that the next stage of the crackdown means that from September 2023, claimants who earn the equivalent of 15 to 35 hours on the minimum wage will be required to increase their earnings. This change will impact another 600,000 claimants. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/news/cost-of-living/dwp-universal-credit-rule-change-26090116

    how on earth can they?

people have to rest and sleep
You are aware that many full time jobs are more than 35 hours a week for those of us not on UC, and we still manage to find time not only to rest and sleep, but also to care for families and have a social life?

Indeed. My daughter has 2 small children, eldest is 3. She works between 50-55 hours per week. Her partner works 40 hours a week. The only benefits they claim is child benefit. They still find time to look after the children, take them out and spend time together as a family.

That does not sound balanced to me. If she works 55 hours and her partner works 40 then who looks after the kids all day? Once they are old enough to go to school how do they get the kids to school and pick them up?

If a family has kids of a few different ages in a few different schools it is just not possible to do the school run some for breakfast club some for busy bees pre school, some need picking up after school

there is no way one parent can work 55 hours and the other 40 hours this would be impossible

Have you not heard of alternating shifts? One works during the day one works during the evening and they have weekends together? Just as an example.

Not everyone has grandparents or someone else who can do the school runs for them.

If say you have three kids in different schools and the breakfast clubs are all different and the after school clubs are also different then only one parent can work full time, usually the mother has to work around the school runs times

I can see many struggling families just not able to take on more hours they are already at the end of their tether.

They will keep explaining that to the job centre plus but they will be told they will have sanctions if they don’t show they are trying to work even more

People have to stay in the intensive work search group until their earnings reach the new minimum.

This means keep having to go to job centre and try to prove you are looking for better paid jobs or even more hours

Two people each working more than 24 hours a week is the norm for many families. And unless there are mitigating circumstances is not an unreasonable ask.
I’d quite like to work part time and possibly have my wages topped by the
government, but it’s not going to happen.

however, this forum is for support with individual circumstances, not rants about general policy. Your question has been answered. Do you have any other point specific to yourself that you need to ask?
