Just checking in. No real life updates. We took the pick up to the city (100 mile drive each way!) to WBAC it but they couldn’t read the vin number from the wheel arch so with restless kids and after over 2 hours of trying/waiting we ended up driving both vehicles home. Husband has managed to clean it up so the number is now readable and has listed it for sale privately. If it doesn’t sell within the next few weeks we will likely try WBAC again. The thought of motorway driving again fills me with dread!

Happy New Year all!2025 starting with a bang over here! The pick-up has sold privately so we are officially debt free for the first time in our entire adult lives!!Now sat pondering housing and work options. We want to move closer to my family so we have emergency support for 19yo if and when we do things with the younger kids.Keen to hear other people’s opinions / what would you do out of these two scenarios
Option 1:
Rent closer to family, would then have approx 1K per month in the budget unaccounted for which could be used for home ed activities, trips, family time, extra to pensions, kids ISA’s etc
or
Option 2:
Buy a house closer to family which would inevitably become their inheritance. For the size of house we’d need the mortgage would be substantial so we would maybe have £150-£200 a month left unaccounted for. Both options would presumably leave the kids a little nest egg with either a lump sum in savings or a share of the house.Debt peaked Oct ‘22 £333130 -
Happy New Year 🥳
What a fabulous start to the New Year
Are you currently in rented? Council rented?Would the new house be the same?Would you have the option to buy after a number of years?Sorry if you’ve already answered these questions before

If you buy would you have enough of a deposit? Moving costs etc?We don’t have the right to buy in Scotland sadly. If renting we could either go private, push for a HA move with OT support which is already in motion as we are classed as overcrowded due to the kids disabilities, or join the swap list. I imagine we will be moved within a year if we go for another HA rental but I’m wondering whether this is morally right if we could technically afford to buy.Debt peaked Oct ‘22 £333130 -
Big life update -
I have a job with the social work department! Very excited to get started. Part time to fit around home education and everything else we have going on at home.AND
We have a new house!! Absolutely beautiful 4 bedroom rental in our current village. We move in on Friday next week.Unfortunately we have had to fund new flooring partially via credit card so have just under £5K to clear once we are in.Also have some devastating news which is our older dog has a nasal tumour which is terminal. Discussing options with vets early next week.Once we are in and settled I will post an updated SOA.Debt peaked Oct ‘22 £333130
