EDF - getting out a fixed contract without penalties

I moved from gas only July 2024 (~13p/kWh) to SVT and it immediately showed a £150 debt on my account. I did receive £150 credit when I signed up, though. I also switched by choosing "dual fuel upgrade", to bring my electricity across from BG.Maybe the deciding factor is whether you received a credit when signing up. The penalty is clearly automatically applied, though, so an agent saying you won't be charged is pretty worthless. Good luck trying to claim it back once it's been charged, based on the content of a chat!2

I'm on a fix ending June24 for gas only. Had my "annual review" letter today, via online account. That gives my expected spend for the next 12 months as the same as this ie assuming I stay on the now expensive fix .This is incorrect as I'll actually pay ~ £100 more as the Govt. EPG discount vanishes
HOWEVER , it says that I could save over £410 by moving to PAYG with Standard variable and doesn't mention the exit fees. I didn't get a bung from EDF to move to the fix last year (altho I tried!) so I'm hoping that the previous poster @SteveCooper is correct about no exit fees!0 -
I followed the advice of @SteveCooper and received an assurance that the fee would be removed if I swapped to the SVT. I did, and it was, so very happy.
I had not received the £150 or whatever incentive when I moved to the fix last July. Not sure if that made a difference.0 -
I had the credit and paid the exit but human nature being what it is ive figured worth a shot so will be firing off a twiiter query just in caseStaffordian11 said:I followed the advice of @SteveCooper and received an assurance that the fee would be removed if I swapped to the SVT. My credit balance is still showing £415 in credit as of now no debit is showing on my account as yet , I will keep an eye on it , so far so goodjrawle said:I moved from gas only July 2024 (~13p/kWh) to SVT and it immediately showed a £150 debt on my account. When I went online and swapped to the SV tariff, I immediately looked at the 'My bills and payments' screen on the EDF app and my previous credit balance of ~£250 had been replaced with a debit balance of ~£50. So it was obviously an automated process.SteveCooper said:

After emailing the EDF contact and receiving confirmation the fee had been removed, I could see my balance had referted to the previous credit figure.
Hope this helps.2 -

My electric rate on the fixed was 0.40p and on the SVT is 0.29p and my gas was 0.13 on the fixed and on the SVT it’s going down to 0.7p
so it’s quite a difference0 -
I looked back and looks like I didn't get the £150 bill credit at the time I took it out, so exit fees effectively £150.
After first WhatsApp contact I was told edit fees would apply. Following the above I've contacted them again to try and get a different response.

Had yet another surreal Whatsapp chat yesterday where the agent told me she understood my issue - but she clearly didn't as she told me I would be charged the exit fee for changing to SVT but then said ,but don't worry ,I can confirm your charges will remain the same after July 1st !brewerdave said:

The classic answer to "did you find this form easy to complete" is "Tuesday" - maybe you could follow the same vein in your feedback 🙂🙂🙂 Don't worry, the AI robots will fix this soon ...brewerdave said:
