oh piggers that is sad news on one hand, and condolences to you, oh and the girls. But on the other hand things were getting no better and were unlikely to do so.
A slow, lingering demise does no one any favours and is a strain on everyone.
having gone to bed disgustingly early i have slept well and feel better. I am seriously considering not continuing with this medication. taking anti nausea medication and loperamide at the same time, just so that i can carry on, seems somewhat extreme.
i’ve put a washload in, that’s it. kitchen is a tip.

Valli, I am glad it is over for her, she was not happy and I am glad we took the girls last time we went. I knew she would not be coming home when they took her in at the weekend and his nasty sister was still saying she was fine and didn't need to go.. I am so done with his vile sister and even worse partner.. at least now I never have to see them again.. The nasty partner was badgering OH at 7 this morning to tell his sister he doesn't blame her for their mothers death.. but he does, and I do and she blames herself too I hope. Nothing like a funeral to bring out all the anger and hurt and grudges I guess. I may need to stitch my mouth shut. We haven't told the girls yet, letting OH get his head straight and we will tell them after school. Let them have one more day of happiness I guess.
second load in the DW.. and I'm away to hang out 2 loads and bring 2 loads in before it gets disgustingly hot out there.

So sorry to hear your news, pigpen. May your MIL now rest in peace.
In a change to the advertised programme, last night's Old Wives Group had a speaker on the Spanish Flu pandemic of 1918-19. Lots of parallels with Covid, but far worse outcomes (no antiviral treatments in those days!). Interesting but depressing.
So far this morning I have
- managed to get back to sleep from 4.30-7.00
- let Rosie out into the garden and enjoyed the cool air before the rest of last night's rain had evaporated
- caught up with the news and other websites
- updated finances
- eaten breakfast
- WULTD
- cleaned worktops and small appliances
- cleaned a very streaky mirror in the LR
- 5min PUPA
- sorted washing
- cleared floordrobe
Next: shower and dress, then take 7 boxes, a big folder and a roll of drawing paper downstairs, ready to load into my car [fer-ling]. I need to water the peppers and tomatoes. When the back garden is shaded this afternoon, I want to start pulling out all the common forget-me-nots (now well past their best) and their invasive cousins (green alkanet). After 3 downpours, no more rain is forecast for almost a week.
DH is off to SW shortly and will also be out this evening.
Catch up later xxx8 -

Thank you x
I had several discussions on that very subject at the time. It was not just a lack of medicine during the Spanish flu years (it was around for 7 years before mutating into a less harmful virus) there was also a lower standard of living, tenement buildings, poverty, no proper washing facilities, it was pretty dire. Diseases have a 100 year cycle if you look back through the centuries almost every one has a pandemic and a war. it is like human beings never learn anything and have very short memories. There were well known diseases such as the bubonic plague and cholera but also smallpox, typhoid, diphtheria, dysentry and other respiratory diseases and of course with no medicine or antibiotics secondary infections killed thousands too.. the biggest advances were in the 1950's with the introduction of antibiotics and indoor plumbing which made washing hands so much easier. simply washing hands before surgery was found to result in fewer post-op infections and fewer deaths and the doctor who suggested it was laughed at and pushed out of the medical world because of this 'radical' ideology.. then in 2020 people were being taught how to wash their hands. I often wonder if we are as intelligent as we like to think, as a species.

And common sense is not. I told the children people get wrinkles when they are wise.

Sorry to hear about MiL, Piggers. Lots of vibes coming your way to help you to tell the girls. On the plus side, I now feel like I should be really, really wise, and getting wiser by the day!
I was just about to log on a couple of hours ago, when Mr M turned up a good 30 minutes early. Hurrah! But the poor man was very hot, still cheerful and chatty, as his aircon wasn’t working. I have just finished sorting out the shopping, but in my defence (there really wasn’t that much, considering the ££££s), I have sorted cupboards, fridge and freezer along the way. I’m claiming that as flying above the call of duty!I was at the allotment by 7.45am, while it was still fresh and breezy. Planted a few plants, as we obviously aren’t going to get any of the rain that I have been waiting for, cajoled a few others into thinking about doing better, and stuck seeds in for good measure in some gaps. Picked a huge bunch of sweet williams (I grow some flowers there specifically for cutting, rather than buy any in the shops. Reduces my flower miles iyswim, and attracts bees as well. Upset a few of the old timers when I started, as they thought it should be vegetables or nothing. Many of them now grow a few flowers too….) and also gave a bunch to my allotment neighbour.
2 loads through the wm, 1 already dry, bedding on the line and probably also dry. DD is packing as she is away tomorrow for a week. I should be giving the bathroom a s&s…8 -
