Received a DCL for a Parking Ticket I know nothing about. Lost the letter.

Hi,

My apologies in advance if this is a bit messy but I have ADHD, so I can be a bit random and nonsensical at times.

Last week I received a letter from a debt collection agency with the letters D and L in the name but I can't remember the name. It did not state the incident it was relating to, just that it was a fine, for parking.

I had moved, and forgotten to change my address on my log book, having tried 3 times before and came up against barriers, as I couldn't find my old log book. Then it slipped from my mind, as most things do (my ADHD brain). I have since updated this.

When I received the debt letter for  £170, I was going to try to find out what parking breach I had reportedly done, however, I have lost the letter so I can not do this. I lose things every day (embarrassing).

I don't recall having overstayed at any car park as I have to use a timer, every time I park or I will lose track of time (I have no awareness of time). So I'm not sure what it can relate to.

Should I chase this up? If so, how do I go about it? I have excellent credit, even though I'm living on a very fine line every month, of having enough to cover money the basics.I live a very simple existence. I don't have £170 spare. In fact, I have just £17 for the next 15 days. I won't be able to pay this fine. (long story, many health issues over the last year).

What do I do; can someone please give me a step-by-step of instructions please? I don't have any CCJ's. I've only had one parking ticket in 35 years of driving, as I always do my best to obey whatever regulations are showing. I don't want a CCJ as I hope to start my own business as soon as I'm physically able. If I do get a court letter, what do I do, considering my current pretty dire finances?

Any help is appreciated.

    Probably from DCBL.

Check out the Newbies thread here: **NEWBIES!! PRIVATE PARKING TICKET? OLD OR NEW? **READ THESE FAQS FIRST!** Thankyou! — MoneySavingExpert Forum

DBCL will eventually discontinue IF you follow all the steps - you will not get a ccj or have to make any payment.

    Ignore £170 demands.

    But:

You'll get another one and reply to thst ONCE (by email obvs, no phoning a scammer!) telling them that they HAVE traced you to the right address and that the old address must be ERASED from their database and that of their client.

THAT IS IMPORTANT. DO NOT PUT IT OFF.

Come back here if you get a court claim as we help people defend these every day.

    Hi Coupon-mad

I have received the next letter you said would come. I have updated my V5 which was still at my old address. I am about to email them as you suggested, telling them they have the right address and to erase the old address.

Do I put in an SAR now, as I have no idea what I did wrong? The SAR to dcbl and the parking eye, or just dcbl?  This letter was their final notice.

    Thanks in advance.

The rectification notice should go to DCBL, and the DPO of ParkingEye.

The SAR should only go to the DPO of ParkingEye.

    Send them both separately.

In both cases you will need to include non-photo proof of ID such as the V5C with correct address, or a redacted utility bill or bank/card statement. Do not send anything with your photo on it, so not your driving licence or a passport.

DPO = Data Protection Officer. Contact details should be on the Contact Us page of their website.

As soon as you know when and where the alleged event occurred, complain to the landowner and your MP about the unfair charge, and that you have a disability and therefore protected characteristics as defined by the Equality Act 2010.

Do not worry. You are now in the right place to get the best help there is available.

I have received the next letter you said would come.
What is 'the next letter' about please?  Is it from DCB Limited or DCB Legal, two separate entities, but under the same DCBL umbrella. There is a significant difference in how you deal with each one.

    @Umkomaas

    Hi,
Letter 2: Final Reminder - Unpaid Parking Charge £170.00 mentioning the Supreme Court Decision about Parking Charges

Letter 3: This letter. FINAL NOTICE OF DEBT RECOVERY

They both have the same letterhead: dcbl Direct Collection Bailiffs Ltd

    Both signed Kin Heaton.

I was just about to email the letter to correct my address to both dcbl and Parking Eye. I won't request an SAR until I receive your reply.

    Many thanks.

If you are getting debt collection notices about a Parking Eye charge you should consider yourself lucky, it usually means they can't or won't take it any further.

Just ride it out for the time being, see how it develops. Come back at any time for any help. We don't expect to see you unless you receive a letter from DCB Legal
