Why high electricty usage

It doesn't take much to use an extra 7.5 kWh per day - - an extra electric shower or two, a long stay visitor, using a fan heater instead of running the main gas heating, a 100 w light in the attic, more cooking - or some combination thereof.Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill0

7.5 kWh a day is a lot (circa £900 a year) and you need to get your Sherlock Holmes on and track down the extra usage.

I will take meter reading s each day for the next few days to see if I continue to use such high amounts of electricity.markin said:If you have a hot water tank they usually have an electric immersion heater back up, that is the most common problem, often kids, or people that don't know what the switch even is.
Then it is blocked pond pumps, sump pumps, broken freezers.
You can run tests on the meter yourself first by running a kettle with everything else unplugged and counting the flashes.
What houshold devices could consume so much electricity?
As for immersion heater I don't know if I have one or where it is ???
If daily meter readings confirm high usage I will first get an energy monitor to check any potential high usage devices (e.g. refrigerator )0 -
Basics: how is the property hot watered (you have told us you have gas heating), so presumably a gas boiler? But does this boiler also heat the hot water? If so, is is a combi or conventional boiler? If the latter, then you have a hot water tank, and these are often fitted with an immersion heater as a backup. If so, it's very possible for the immersion switch to be set to 'on' by accident. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Do you have a hot water tank or get instant hot water from your boiler?
Hot water tank will be in the airing cupboard if you have one and the switch will be near it.0 -
I have Worcester 28i combi boiler. On research it provides hot water on demand and does not use a water tank1

Ok, but that does not mean you don't have an old water tank, do you have an airing cupboard?
If not then that is not your problem.
Do you use any of the things already listed, Electric shower, fish tank, EV, pond pump.0 -
Is your fridge/freezer getting on a bit? If the seals have recently failed then it'll be using more power to try and stay at the set temp.
Any outdoor lighting that might have dirty sensors so they're staying on for longer?
Did you work from home/more than normal last month, or perhaps had some time off and binged TV/a new game?I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.1 -
