I’ve been trying to switch over to EE using the link that plusnet provides for the “exclusive “deals on sim only and surprise surprise, it doesn’t work!
And now Plusnet are now not answering their phones for enquiries!
It's working, but don't bother. The cheapest 'exclusive deal' is £8 for 5GB.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I guess we wait on being told a date that they will no longer be providing the service.
£8 for 5GB with no roaming is easily beatable.
What I'd like to know is do you need to be careful about the date you apply for a new sim to avoid having just paid for the month ahead and paid again to the new provider? Or is plusnet obliged to refund any unused days, or can new providers be setup to take over from the end of the current billing month?

It would seem that they are offering you the option to leave penalty free in the hope you all do, so they don't have to withdraw service from many people. I would also guess that if they gave a closing date it would cause a stampede for pac codes and create a cust service backlog.
I would imagine that unless you have paid for a month and they choose to end their agreement with you it is unlikely that they will refund money you have already paid, but they may do. It is probably safest to sign a new deal about a week before your renewal date and port your number 2 or 3 days later. Depending on who you join you may be able to get a free sim from them beforehand and then buy a plan for it at the right time. Otherwise some plans will only come into effect when you actually start using the service but it varies.

Edit: also how you order. An mse blagged deal can only go to a new sim, you can't add it to a sim you already have (lyca, lebara, and I think smarty fall into that category)

E.g RWG. Order a free sim from them around day 14 of your monthly cycle. Request a pac at the same time. When the sim comes you can check it works (and make a note of the temporary number). On about day 25 top it up or buy a plan then give them your pac on day 26. Try to buy your plan and start the porting process near the beginning of the week.
