Found my dream house - under flight path

Me too. We used to really enjoy sitting in our back garden of an evening watching planes coming in to land at Heathrow (we lived in Reading). We still miss Concorde. You get used to being on a flight path surprisingly quickly IMO.Where we are now (Cumbria) we get lots of military aircraft, especially jets practising low-level flying (we're close to Ullswater). I love watching them too even if they do sometimes practically touch the roof as they pass over!1

For people buying near Heathrow, this may be useful.

caileag said:But - you have to decide what you can compromise on. I won't say no house is perfect, I am sure they exist, but I bet they cost more than this one! This is the problem. If you go on an Internet forum and say:- Would you buy a house under a flight path- Would you buy a house next to a sub station- Would you buy a house near pylons- Would you buy a house next to a school- Would you buy a house next to a main road- Would you buy a house next to a waste recycling centre- Would you buy a house next to a train line- Would you buy a house on a private road- Would you buy a house that has an estate management fee- etc, etc, etc9 times out of 10 the answer will be, "No." Unfortunately though there is very little context because nobody knows the price, your budget, what else is great about the house, and what flaws all the other houses have that you've already viewed. There has been something "wrong" or some disadvantage with every house I have ever looked at. It's a case of compromising and figuring out what you can put up with, and what you can't

Thanks for everyone who has taken time to comment. Have gone back to view with parents. Although the wind is not the right direction today - so no flights…
have thought hard - we r not proceeding.
will leave it to the two offers on the table.
made peace with our decision and moving on.
nice weekend ahead !5 -
We live under the flight path to Birmingham airport and it doesn’t bother me at all. Some of them are really low and we enjoy looking at them in the back garden. The Emirates ones come over and they are great!Striving to clear the mortgage before it finishes in Dec 2028 - amount currently owed - £26,322.671

If you don't want the noise don't listen for it
You can listen for the noise and you will hear it, if you don't listen you might not1 -
Worth considering that long haul arrivals start at 4.30 am, often both runways are used. Take offs start at 6.00am.
AT 3pm they switch runways, Runway alternation.
Last flight depart/arrive at around 1130 pm, this does vary.
Departing flight paths can vary, where we lived during the summer months aircraft passed at 2000 ft. Sold up not so long ago as the 3rd runway would have been directly over my roof.
Plus sidegreat public transport, plenty of employment with airport associated businesses and not far to travel for holiday flights

Under flight path approach to Heathrow. Quite noisy (used to live and work in SW13). £7 million.Signature on holiday for two weeks1 -
Planes don't bother me. Trains don't either. But I can't stand road noise or car noise in general. If it was a choice between planes or everyone starting up their cars at 7am (eg an estate) I would go for planes.2
