Phone and SIM

I have a iPhone SE.  I don't use it a lot, mainly to receive text messages from companies (such as the bank telling me I am overdrawn!), and friends, mainly  with iPhones.   I use 1p mobile on my SIM.

Basically is it worth my changing, as the rates of 1p per mb data, 1p min calls, 1p text.   Sometimes I make a phone call lasting 2 mins,  or  I may use more than 1mb data but all these are rare rather than usual.

1p mobile requires at least a £10 top up every 120 days.  If you're not using it actively (or spending at least £2.50 on that tariff) you've probably got so much credit on it by now you won't know what to do with it.

Most PAYG providers require you to either top up or use at least once every x days (typically 180), but of course they cost more in the first place per call/text/data.

Thanks Neil.  I have just checked I have £13.81 credit to use by August, and my wife has £6.34, but needs to use hers by June.   (We top up with £10 each time).   Maybe we are using it more than we think !!!

There isn't, presumably, any other PAYG provider that is better?

I think the cheapest option could be switching between Lyca and Lebara every 3/ 6 months which ultilize their new customer offer.

RWG mobile have a package with 250mins, 250 txt, 2GB data for £35 for 2 years
It is not the cheapest, but save the hassle of switching around.

Thanks Cisco.  It is all a lot of hassle, having to change SIMs every few months and then porting the numbers over each time.   So unless somebody knows of a company that would provide the service virtually free, just a charge for use at a very cheap rate and not having to top-up, I think we will stay as we are.

I was just enquiring to check that I wasn't missing anything.

How long have you been with 1p? When I was with them they started rounding up to charge £2.50pm even if nor used at all. So maybe some of your credit has been eaten away at some point
It might be worth checking your usage through the online account.
Switching between lyca and lebara would likely be most cost effective but may not be ideal if you rely on the number for banking etc.

I can't remember exactly, probably about 2 years.   As Neil said above, you have to top up by £10 every 120 days, but any credit from the previous top-up is rolled over.   You don't lose any credit, but it is annoying to have to top up even when you have credit.

I don't spend anywhere near £6 pm.   Would the cashback be around £6 ?
