my question above remains though
you might have to check ur terms and conditions on that one. if u are leaving ur contract early which u are if u use the pac before ur original (12m) contract is up, i can think of 2 things they can do:
1) bill u to the end of ur contract even though u left early
2) charge u an extra 'fee' for leaving ur contract earlier than the date its due.
u might have to read the terms or phone them up to ask them0 -
I have just got back from three weeks vacation.
one week before my vacation I got the runaround from CPW and eventually - after 5 calls - was told to write to the Southampton address.
this I did (not recorded delivery though - was not told to do this). It is now 4 weeks later and no PAC code has arrived.
so it is clear they are still giving the runaround and ignoring any letter that is not sent recorded delivery
I hate CPW with a passion - have previously had to issue small claims summons on two occasions to get them to pay cashbacks -- I now just want shot of them0 -
Just an update.
I called O2 direct and they couldn't give me a PAC code either, so I sent a recorded delivery letter requesting a PAC code to:
Carphone Warehouse
PAC Request
Ref 1007/02
PO Box 345
Unit 19
Southampton
SO30 2NR
The letter was sent yesterday and PAC code was received by text today - I didn't even have to chase them up! As I'm transferring my number to another provider I didn't ask to cancel - in the letter I just simply asked for the PAC code.
where did you get the Ref 1007/02 from? Is this standard/generic or is it user specific? I was not given a ref and think that mught be why they ignored my letter.0 -

The ref is generic. I think you got it right originally - they ignored your letter because it was not sent via a trackable method.0 -

Will CPW penalise me?
You have to give the code to your new provider within 30 days of having the code generated. Your line rental is paid a month in advance, so you prob have paid enough anyway so CPW shouldnt charge you anymore, in fact you may end up with them owing you money, it depends when your billing cycle is each month.0 -
I asked for my PAC Code about two weeks and sent them the letter which was received by them last Tuesday so almost 2 weeks ago - yet i've received nothing. If i phone them up and say what's going on what will they do?0

I phoned up the CPW on 13th August requesting a PAC Number - they told me to send my disconnection reference number to the following address, and I would receive the PAC within 72 hours:
1007 PAC,
PO Box 345,
Unit 19,
Southampton SO30 2NR
On 1st September, still hadn't received anything, so I sent the same letter by recorded delivery. The letter was never delivered... So I sent the same letter on 8th September by special delivery (cost £5.10!) - they received it on 9th Sept before 11am (I know thanks to royal mail tracking). I called on 10th to find out why I still hadn't received my PAC - they said it takes up to 48 hours from receipt of letter. I called again today when the 48 hours was up - they said I haven't received it because it takes 72 hours from receipt of the letter. The guy also claimed there was no direct phone number for the disconnections office! I reckon there is no disconnections office - it's just a big dustbin...0 -
if you dont get your PAC and have sent by recorded delivery, track it using the royalmail site. you should be able to see proof of delivery, if and when you do, you can imply call up CPW and mention you are yet to get your PAC, if they say it is because they never received it tell them it has been signed for and you have the proof. They will ask for the tracking number and once they see the same screen you see they will send you the PAC within 72 hours (got mine in 24 hours).
this was done with a letter i sent in May, proof of delivery was available to see, however the one is sent in August is yet to give me the proof of delivery. I told them i never received the PAC after so many months which is true of course.0 -
Update...
Still haven't received my PAC - it's been over 72 hours since they received my letter (according to royal mail). I phoned the CPW again - they said my request 'had not been processed' so they have put in another request for my PAC 'to be generated'. This process could take another 72 hours. So now it's gone from 48 hours to 72 hours to 144 hours till I receive my PAC. They said they could only apologise - no offer of compensation. How difficult is it to generate a PAC?0 -
2nd Update...
My partner, who is currently with CPW/O2, phoned up CPW on my behalf. He told them that he is currently deciding whether to upgrade or leave the CPW, so how they treat me will help the decision... My partner stated that I am entitled to my PAC within 2 days of requesting it, as it is essentially my property (read about this on digitalspy forums) and that he knew they could generate the PAC there and then. The CPW guy spoke to the Management Team, then said he'd get back to my partner with my PAC within an hour! Believe it or not, my partner did receive the phone call and I got my PAC!! So it helps to be forceful... tell them you have the right to your PAC and ask to speak to the Management Team.0
