Thank you. It's helpful seeing it broken down like that.Mstty said:
As long as that is what the energy company have and you agree that the base point for negotiating your direct debit then that's a great start. I presume from your first post you still do want to negotiate this payment?SkyChild said:Ok start reading (30th Jan) was apparently 39055 / 74727

Seem to be going up in reasonably small increments each 24 hours so I think we've sorted it with the off-peak hot water and not using the storage heaters. Hopefully we can save up a chunk before next winter
If that is the case I would present to them a use of just over 21kwh a day with a ratio of 80% night and 20% day and suggest the maximum direct debit is set to £200 a month (that is more than enough especially as we move into the summer but will build you a healthy amount for winter if that's what you wish to do)
After a year at that amount you can review with the credit and recalculate.
Do you think I should phone them and try to renegotiate considering they have already refused to set it to less than £400pm? Will having the KWH help considerably on that front?0

Because of various big things going on in our life right now I still haven't contacted other suppliers, usually just have enough oomph to cook tea before I crawl into bed! But thank you for the information anyway, I'll get to it hopefully soonSAC2334 said:
Update on the tariff the complex meter team at EDF put my friend in Aberdeenshire on . I checked his account and he has been put on Singleheat ( variable ) at only 9.41 p /kwh on the THTC meter and 32.55 p/kwh on the normal heater . It was nt an eco7 tariff which I thought he was on .That is about the lowest night rate in the UK ( from the highest with SSE )SkyChild said:Thanks for the warning
I don t know the live hours that the THTC meter is operational .
No complaints at all from my friend who is free from his hostage takers at SSE at last1

He failed to get any sense out of SSE (Ovo ) at all. You can have a go just to see whats the latest on THTC meters.SkyChild said:

Make sure you are only paying one daily standing charge as his was only changed from 2 when Ovo took over the billing side of SSE .
The only way out of the THTC meter hostage was a replacement smart meter which would probably need an internal wiring change .SSE cust service saId no smart meters were available when he phoned them last October
The radioteleswitch service has been said to end a few times in the last two years but latest from SSE was it was put back to March 2025 . On a SSE blog I read that they would then come and switch the meter to fixed Eco 8 timing .

Hi there yes knowing your kwh usage is key to negotiating the right direct debit payment.SkyChild said:

So presuming there is currently no debt on the account or infact credit this would be a good start.
Present your readings and suggest the £200 per month and if they refuse ask them to open up a.complaint as you will need to take this to the ombudsman if they do not agree.1

Ok thanks both. I am paying 2 standing charges currently (but one meter) and will try to renegotiate based on our actual usage.
 Wish me luck!1

Are you sure this is a THTC meter? They have 3 rates, day , night and stored heat also only one standing charge0
-
It says "THTC standard" on the tariff, not sure about the meter itself. We only have 2 rates though.
I questioned the two standing charges and they said it would need replaced with a smart meter but surprise surprise they aren't doing them in my area yet and have no expected timescale.0

I ve seen my friends THTC meter .His only charges his NSH so its either off or on when they decide to switch it on via Radioteleswitch. EDF took his over last Dec and call the tariff Singleheat (variable ) and charge only 9.41 p /kwhGlasshalffull_2 said:Are you sure this is a THTC meter? .His other meter is a standard meter on all the time to charge his power and lighting circuits.
Since 2017 ( I think that was the date )suppliers are not allowed to charge two standing charges and any that are still being charged for two can get a rebate back to 20171

Phone calls do not make for a good record as advised earlier email so when they respond you have a full record of events dates and times.SkyChild said:
Oh well that's very interesting to know! I'll be mentioning that next phone callSAC2334 said:Since 2017 ( I think that was the date )suppliers are not allowed to charge two standing charges and any that are still being charged for two can get a rebate back to 20170
