I asked the man on the phone from SSE for my estimated projection kwh and he just laughed and said he didn't have it. ...................

That is not acceptable -   a formal complaint in writing and ask them for a copy of the tape
Come to think of it actually that same person said I have a lovely surname (ok, it's unusual) and then later "This girl's used to paying bills" and I was like... ?? is that flirty? That's weird. Maybe I should mention that too

@Skychild -   catch your breath and do nothing else today.

Then read those meters daily - take your time - some meters can be very difficult to read - double check.

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Well that's the thing... I submitted some online and gave some by phone, so the dates are all out of whack and by this point I just don't know anymore.

I will just need to remember to take daily meter readings just now until I get a handle on it. I can post these as I go along

I wouldn't fret overmuch about daily readings, but certainly weekly ones for your own records for now, and so you can start to get a handle on your energy use.

As for cancelling the DD - I can sympathise with your thinking on that one, if they refuse point blank to take an amount that can be afforded, and don't offer a variable or whole amount direct debit option, then you don't have much option BUT to cancel, do you, at least for the time being. Hopefully with readings for a few months they will be willing to reconsider where they are able to set a DD at, and you'll be able to reinstate it.

I would agree that weekly would be fine for now and then move to monthly later.  Try and do it around the same time on the same weekday each week/month.      It takes a while to build a useful guide to your use as you use very little from May to October and then a lot more in the rest of the months.      The sooner you start though, the more useful the information becomes. i.e. this is what we used in April, May, June etc.  Once you understand your energy use, you are then in control. Both in how much you pay (as they cannot ignore real use) and how you may be able to find ways to reduce your energy use.

Its a bit of work but many of us that have gone through this found it quite interesting.  Especially if you can get some energy saving from it.     I personally was able to get our electric use lowered by 10kWh per day by tracking use and then using that info and some energy monitor plugs to lower our use.       So, there can be a good payoff from all this work.

    Hi skychild.

The actual readings and dates don't make sense going down then up.

What exact date did you move in and what were the readings on that date.

    What are the readings today

No, they don't, do they? SSE seem to have noted the actual readings and then sent the bills out of order.
I don't have note of the actual move-in date reading on my phone (at work just now) but can take note of it and today's and post later/tomorrow.
