My predicted annual gas useage was 9700 gas Kw/hrs.... in 12 months i used 9100 yet my DDM has been raised to £110/month, given we may have a summer again, iu can forsee a big credit balance...

My electric prediction was £841 down from £894 but my useage over 12 months has been 1780 units
    Simple solution.
Change to pay on billing direct debit
    tried..............the tariffs are hugely more
They are not, Direct Debit variable/pay monthly is exactly the same unit costs and standing charge as the Direct Debit fixed/budget option.

Monthly billing DD (often called variable or whole amount DD) does not cost any more than fixed DD where you pay the same amount each month.

Some companies allow it, some don't but if they do there is no extra charge.

'Receipt of bill' is a distinct form of payment than a whole amount/variable direct debit, so not surprised the rates quoted for the former are higher.

I didn't suggest paying on receipt of bill, I suggested paying by Variable Direct Debit.

    • 'Variable' monthly direct debits change depending on what you use: To do this you must either a) have a working smart meter or b) give meter readings every month. What you pay will then depend on what you use each month. Expect much higher bills in the winter and lower in the summer – so this can be a cash-flow hit. You generally get a bill a few weeks before your payment is due to go out, letting you know how much your provider will take that month.

You are on a FIXED DD where you pay the same amount every month, no matter how much you use.

With a VARIABLE DD, if you use £37.56 in a month, you will pay £37.56. If you use £412.33 in a month you will pay £412.33. There is never debit or credit on your energy account, it is zeroed after your payment.

    See here: -

4.3.4 We usually set your Direct Debit amount based on the amount of energy we think you’ll use over the year divided by twelve unless you pay by variable Direct Debit; which means you pay your bill in full when you receive one, so the amount may go up or down each time.

...... the above extract would suggest they do allow variable direct debit, even if they "didn't suggest it" anyway.
