My predicted annual gas useage was 9700 gas Kw/hrs.... in 12 months i used 9100 yet my DDM has been raised to £110/month, given we may have a summer again, iu can forsee a big credit balance...

My electric prediction was £841 down from £894 but my useage over 12 months has been 1780 units

  • Is there a question here or is it just a rant?

DD would be expected to go up for a number of reasons (tariff increase/EBSS ending/etc) so not unexpected. Last 12 months has been mild = less gas. Their prediction is based on historic usage going back a number of years..

If your not happy with a credit balance then look at a variable DD if offered bu Eon or switch to a supplier that does.

You are with eon so the government grant of £400 was paid to you at £66/£67 p/month.
The last payment for that was March, so you DD will have increased by £67 per month.
Since October were you paying £43-50 per month?

Are you in credit now with then? If so, as you say summer is coming and that £110 would be on the high side but only if you're in credit.

@maxmycardagain your post is not clear but I will tell you my story with the Eon Next direct debit.

We now have 18 months electricity use with Eon Next and in the last year (we are all electric here no alternate fuels) using 5975kwh that's 1st Apr 22 - 31sr Mar 23 and coincided with the email from Eon Next setting our DD for the upcoming year and EBSS ending.

They wanted to set our DD up at £210 a month.

The account is in credit by £120.60

We are on a fix so the standing charge for electricity is £188 and 5975kwh at 29.24p kWh is £1747 total £1935 and ignoring the credit on the account £161 a month. Taking the credit into account £150 a month.

The percentage of the miscalculation is not excusable and to top it off it took four attempts (with calculations) for them to finally accept they were wrong and to set our DD to £150.

If there are doing this across the board then that is not good.

They are not doing this across the board. I have had to manually increase my DD amount as it has not reverted to Pre £67 grant amount.
We have a small debit on the account and have done so, increasingly over the past 6 months. Previously when I increased the DD they reduced it to an even lower point the following day! So I left it.
However, with the loss of the £67 grant I was concerned we would end up with a large deficit before next winter even starts. I hope this time they accept my increased payments.

Have you been with Eon Next for some time?

I am glad they are not doing it across the board but for those affected they aren't the easiest to contact and get it changed. Most customer service representative don't understand how to calculate kWh usage, standing charges and come up with a yearly then monthly figure. Maybe Rishi is right getting everyone learning mathematics lol.

Your usage is roughly double what I use and my direct debit I choose to pay is £100 a month

I am not on smart meter but send them a reading every month and they produce my bill after getting the reading

Octopus seems to allow me to choose whatever I wish but I would rather have a large balance than be in debt, the balance is already at £205 so come June/July I will be able to cut that by half

When the time comes and I think my credit will get me through next winter then I will reduce it

E.ON's approach for the ending of EBSS seems to be NOT simply to reinstate the prior DD amount by adding in £67, but instead to recalculate a new amount based on their estimates for consumption and tariffs for the next 12 months. In my case this has resulted in a new DD amount about £12.50pm LESS than the pre-EBSS amount, commencing in June, by which time I will have paid eight DDs at the reduced EBSS rate. I can live with this. As I am on a fixed deal until 2 July, I will revisit the calculations when I know what tariff is in effect after that.

leaving aside the S/C rates (and increases) why do they want credit balances exceeding winter useage in summer months?... and who gets the interest?
