There are obviously now minimum epc ratings for rentals - would panel rads plus electric immersion tank meet the standard?
    I think....

Minimum is still E, so the bar is fairly low.
Proposal is to be minimum C by Dec 2025 for new tenancies, and Dec 2028 for all rentals.
  • Thank you all for your comments and advice.  an Update - the panel heaters were installed, the storage heaters were removed.  As expected the cost is hideous with the panel heaters, not using them at night when i have the cheap rate so the E7 tariff is no good.  Was advised to keep the tariff for the hot water boiler which i have.  Done some calculations and it neither here nor there on cost savings changing to a single rate tariff , its literally a couple of of quid so not worth doing.

I have better heating in the bedrooms now as can time the heaters to come on for a couple of hours about 10pm.  Dont need anything more than that.  i cant afford to have any of the other heaters on so its freezing everywhere else. When i do put the heaters on for a couple of hours in the day, once they go off, within 10 minutes, its freezing again.

I have referred my self for some help under the Great British Insulation scheme as i think there is little if any insulation, i can feel cold draughts when the temp drops , i can heat the place to my hearts content but will cost me a fortune as all the heat escapes due to the coldness that comes in from outside through the external walls .  I really want someone to come round and do an EPC and investigate the external wall structure, really think that is my problem

  • Generating an EPC certificate is purely a form-filling exercise.  There is no investigation involved.  A building surveyor might help - but the surveyor who I paid to inspect our house before we moved in missed some issues about which there were some very obvious clues.

You may as well try Octopus tracker the average cost is around 24p, if it rockets up for any reason you can just drop back to the SVR.

Sadly with electricity costing four times as much as gas, the only realistic answer is to move to somewhere ideally with GCH, or at least with HHR NSHs.
  • Thanks for updating for us OP, although I am sorry to hear that the threatened move to the panel heaters did happen. Have you raised a formal complaint with the SA about this on the basis that their ill-researched change of heating method has made it impossible for you to afford to adequately heat your home?

Who advised you that?  Unless your hot water cylinder is huge, or you're nocturnal, that doesn't make any sense.

Octopus Tracker as mentioned by someone else is a good shout, you might be able to afford to have the heaters on half as long again (is even twice as long, depending on what your current day rate is) and it would make everything else cheaper - except the hot water.

I know you've done calculations, how long have you had the panel heaters to know how much night rate you now use?

I'd try to live out of one room if you can and just use a cheap fan heater for the short time you are in any others to take the chill off.
