Buyer Hasn't Paid?

First time I've ever used eBay to sell something and the buyer hasn't paid. They placed a bid for £45 on an item as soon as I listed it then went silent after they won. No response to reminders from eBay or myself and I can now cancel for non payment.

What is the usual procedure here? Thin skinned perhaps but I just find it a bit crappy not to even have the courtesy to apologize for changing their mind so I can relist it, but just ignore me instead. I wouldn't mind but they have 100% positive feedback with almost every one for being a super fast payer and great buyer. Yet for some reason I had to be the one person they didn't pay.

Am I allowed to give negative feedback for being a timewaster and report/block them? 'im sorry I changed my mind' takes a few seconds. A negative strike for not paying stays on your profile forever.

Sellers cannot leave negative feedback for buyers. Just go through the non-paying bidder process, relist it and hope for a better buyer next time.

No use being bitter over it, it's happened to all of us. Life is too short.

Going through the correct process gives the buyer a strike for non-payment.  You can also block them.

You don't know what's going on in your buyer's life.

Yes - it's very possible and plausible that they've changed their mind and are ignoring you, but other things in life also happen.

Maybe they were rushed into hospital a day ago with a heart attack, and are currently under sedation. Maybe they had a burglary and their PC was stolen. The house might have been burnt to the ground. Yes - all are low on the probability scale - but these things (and others) do happen, and in extreme cases life is more important than replying to an ebay message as to why they hadn't paid for a £45 item.

Ebay has a process to manage things when you don't get paid, and that's all you have to do. No point getting into a frame of mind where you want to get back at them for wasting your time. Just relist it and sell it again :)

As above life happens maybe they have a genuine reason or maybe they no longer want the item.

I had a seller give me several reasons why they could not post my item yet they were buying items and
collecting them without an issue. I just opened a case and got my refund. Surprised when they posted the
item in a bin bag some time after ebay refunded me.

I contacted them and never received a reply.  I didn't want the items they were in a disgusting condition
and the bin bag was appropriate.

File a NPB and move on. After a few strikes they wont be able to bid but make sure your blocks are in place also.

Of course, it's just annoying people still behave that way in this day and age. If you're not sure you can afford something then you don't bid. She'll probably come back and tell me her toddler placed the bid by mistake...

Ok so how do I start a NPB? Will just clicking cancel do that?

How does the process give the buyer a strike please? Do they get in trouble with eBay?

If the buyer still hasn't paid after you've sent the invoice, and it's been more than 4 calendar days since the listing ended, cancel the order by selecting the Cancel order button below and choosing Buyer hasn't paid in the drop down menu.

Unfortunately that doesn't work. I only get three options, none of them are for buyer not paid 😕

But let's face it, it's far more likely I just have a timewaster who lacks common decency than any of those scenarios. The bit that irks a little is the only feedback they have is for being a wonderful payer and if sellers were allowed to give honest feedback about non payment then I would have just pretended I dropped the item and broke it then apologised profusely and blocked them. Saves being messed around for 4 days not being able to relist. It just seems there's no way to weed out timewasters if sellers are not allowed to say anything. I can't even say lesson learned because like I say, you can't know if the next buyer will be the same. I just think if a buyer doesn't pay, the seller should be allowed to give other sellers a heads up. Saves a lot of messing around for everyone.

There is a behind the scenes system -  unpaid item strikes are not made public but you can set buyer requirements to include them.

    https://www.ebay.co.uk/help/selling/listings/creating-managing-listings/setting-buyer-requirements?id=4152

I have mine set to block buyers who have 2 unpaid item strikes within 12 months - the minimum and maximum respectively.
