Ceridwen....being a nosy so and so, I've just had a quick look at your "sharks circling" post and it seems to be starting to degenerate into an unfortunate slanging match.

I know that people have some very strong opinions (myself included) but it really saddens me to see what should be a supportive network being dragged down sometimes when people start being abusive just because they can't agree to differ in a civilised manner.

Just wanted to send you some (((hugs)))

    cheers

awww.......shucks...thanks folks. Well - I tried - I aint perfect by any manner of means (I have been known to lose my temper once or twice - ie unkindness to animals will provoke it for instance) - but I was trying to help. I was pretty upset when I wrote that post - one sleepless night later that was. For now I'm just staying in my "safe haven" here on the O.S. Board - I've only ventured elsewhere briefly today for a read and restricted myself to "thanking" a helpful suggestion someone made.

Thankfully - theres very little in the way of objectionable comments on this Board. Pretty much all I have ever noticed is when StudentPhil put in a post one time and some of his detractors followed him over and put in their usual style comments against him. I can never understand why he keeps putting up comments - as they always seem to be harmless, but he always attracts a salvo of nasty comments each time.

Some people just "get off" on making nasty comments and an anonymous medium like the Internet must feel like "all their Christmases come at once" to them. We can all lose our temper at times and make the odd one or two posts that in hindsight we regret - we are human - but deliberately "going for people" is a bit beyond me. Personally - I'm quite enjoying getting a group of "virtual friends". To me - I tend to take the view that if its no skin off your nose to help someone (even if its a total stranger) then you might as well do so - you never know when you might need a bit yourself. What goes around comes around and all that stuff.

...and hugs to Sagaris...re that "lurking family disagreement". One can choose ones friends......(which of course includes us) but...

ceridwen - there are loads of daily mail hater-types on these boards as i found out when I posted a thread asking for advice on council housing for a friend of mine living in cramped conditions. Some people's version of being helpful was to suggest she shouldn't have had so many children, or that she should just be thankful to have any roof over her head etc etc - all without knowing anything about her or her situation. Just a stock Jeremy Kyle response of "get a job" (her OH has one) and "my hard-earned taxes blah blah blah".

I love my hard-earned taxes being spent on the welfare state personally, I wish a higher percentage of my taxes went in this direction than in tax relief for already rich !!!!!!!s!

  • I am an infrequent poster but subscribe to this thread - I love it! We are all on the same wavelength. Another blessing about making virtual friends is it levels the communication playing field - everyone gets their turn, everyone is heard and everyone can 'hear'! For the hearing impaired, this is of vital importance - it's impossible to take part in a conversation where everyone is talking fast/at once/there's too much background noise!

I simplified my life last year by becoming ill and had to go part-time - as I am single through divorce this was a worry to me but I've adjusted my finances and I'm happier. Still working on getting well, and hoping for more progress. I don't miss the stress of full-time work, looking back I wonder how I managed to sustain it for as long as I did.

Like everyone else here, I'm keen to de-clutter, and have designated Sunday afternons as paper de-clutter time. It's working really well. I know I'll eventually tame the paperwork, and the shredded /waste paper gets collected on Mondays, so it's not hanging around!

My life was greatly simplified by my separation and divorce. Being honest about how unhappy my marriage was and resisting the social pressure to stay put was ultimately the best gift for me and my ex-husband. He is now in a relationship with someone who he is very happy with, which is a great relief to me! Far better than two unhappy people putting up with each other but slowly dying inside..... I was prepared for the fall-out, as I instigated the change people's sympathy went to him, and I am blessed now in knowing who my true friends are:D . It's perhaps a bit extreme to describe it as a de-clutter, but that's the effect it had!!

I'm still trying to declutter and the most difficult thing is to let some of my books go. I decided I'd be ruthless and started looking through them to see which ones I could take to the charity shop. Not such a difficult task as I found that the print had shrunk in some of them (must have) making them more difficult to read at my age.....
BTW, this is a nice forum and I enjoy reading it. Some of the others are a bit crabby to say the least.

  • So its acceptable in this thread to discuss other users and go off topic? seems to be double standards here or is this where the sharks hang out
  • Hi all :hello:
Jojob daily mail - hater types.... is that people who hate people who read the daily mail? or is that daily mail reading type people who are haters??
I like this thread too we simplifyers are a friendly helpful bunch - must be all the stuff we're getting rid off!!!

I think sometimes people read posts / questions and dont really answer the questions and write what they like without thinking how it might affect people. Some people post genuinely and some people do it for entertainment and others are just 'orrible in real life also.....

Unfortunately as I found out sometimes you need to deal with the emotional clutter in life in order to be able to deal with the physical clutter, and a helping hand along the way (or just someone to listen and not judge) is greatly appreciated.

I'm ebaying my clutter. One book sold, ok not a lot but its once less i didn't want or need! (and I got a little money for it too!)

This is what happened to me. I became ill, became severely depressed and unable to work, got into heavy financial problems and went bankrupt; life is so much simpler now - still have my bad days but getting there. It took me a long time to come to terms with the fact that my physical disabilities are never going to get better and I will never be able to go back to my old work which I absolutely loved - you know the saying, do what you love and you will never work a day in your life?

I decluttered everything else in my wardrobe but it was only a few weeks ago that I was able to give away my working suits and blouses.
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D
