Very inspiring quote wmf - in fact - a very inspiring thread ............thanks.
It just might make me re-think my duldrums a bit.
Still ache from helping OH to be the other night after his fall and cancelled my appointme for facial - couldnt see the point in having that done if I didn't feel I was going to benefit from the 'feel good factor' afterwards. Best have it another time when there is a bit less of a hiccup in my life. I'm still catching up on lost sleep having to wait up till midnight last night for one of our lads who'd missed the earlier bus home...............but feeling better by the second/minute/hour. Intend to take it easy today.............kitchen floor crying out to be mopped but thats not as important to me as resting my back. No sense in doing it and feeling worse afterwards. Case of priorities and today I'm putting 'me' first.
OH seems a lot better and even drove to the supermarket. He still aches like mad but nothing like as bad as yesterday so fingers crossed he goes on improving like that.
You're doing so well with the 'simplifying' wmf I feel put to shame - still, I did my 27/9 althought I have to admit to failing the last few days. Still I'd done far more than the 27 in the days before so I'd consider that to be ok.
Still keep looking around and seeing 'stuff' -wondering about it then doing nothing............well not at the moment anyway. I'll poke through the drawers in computer room next but have to do that with care......might well be some odds and ends that will do for someone else's birthday/christmas basket and keep the cost down.
Found some bit and bobs to keep for card making -keeping the cost down in that area as well and I think I'd call that 'simplifying'..........anything that might ease the purse strings a bit has to be a good thing.

So, thats me today.............at least we're a 'kid free zone' till this evening especially as one lad has now got a job at last.

I've got (another) day off work today waiting to see if the boiler man will put in an appearance. Last time he didn't turn up I spent the day de-cluttering so today I decided to have a "me " day. After breakfast I read for an hour. (Alice Hoffman - Skylight Confessions, brilliant as usual) then loaded the dishwasher instead of washing up from family meal last night. I've been here for a while this morning and plan to watch a film this afternoon. Still no sign of the gas boiler man but I'm having a simple costfree lovely day.

  • lovely quote WMF, i have a habit of holding onto books- i can't bear to let them go, although i do recycle charity shop ones-but new ones ( i'm going to have to work on that)
I thoroughly agree about potatoes and supporting local farm shops, i always do that and couldnt imagine shopping any other way.

    Hi wmf!

Thanks for the below from Kahlil Gibran. I really enjoyed reading it and it rings very true.

Please continue to post all your lovely poems etc. on this thread. It makes my day.

    Take care

    Becky

'You give but little when you give of your possessions.
It is when you give of yourself that you truly give.
For what are your possessions but things you keep and guard for fear you may need them tomorrow?
And to-morrow, what shall to-morrow bring to the over-prudent dog burying bones in the trackless sand as he follows pilgrims to the holy city?
And what is the fear of need but need itself?
Is not dread of thirst when your well is full, the thirst that is unquenchable?
There are those who give little of the much which they have - and they give it for recognition and their hidden desire which makes their gift unwholesome.
There are those who have little and give it all. These are the believers in life and the bounty of life, and their coffer is never empty.
There are those who give with joy, and that joy is their reward.
And there are those who give with pain, and that pain is their baptism.
    And there are those who give and know not pain in giving, nor do they seek joy, nor give with mindfulness of virtue;
They give as in yonder the myrtle breathes its fragrance into space.
Through the hands of such as these God speaks, and from behind their eyes He smiles upon the earth.'

Good start to the day ceridwen.............lol

Well, slept better last night and think OH did from what he said though he felt stiffer he reckoned. Hes managed to go to the supermarket and do the shopping (home delivery no lifting).
Our lad just came in from work..............offered to hoover and do kitchen floor for me then had phone call and went out !!!!!!! Typical kids !!
He did shout out he'd do it tomorrow.............but then we all know about tomorrow don't we, so I'll end up having a go at it myself. (Oh to be rich enough to have a cleaner........................... well I can dream !)

Spent the morning making some Easter cards........don't normally send them but thought I would this year to a few 'special' folk and it gave me something to do that wasn't too energetic but I felt I'd achieved something when I'd finished.
Paperwork will be next on the list but thats a weekend thing I think. Paperwork to sort out for Mum which won't take too long then reports on kids.
Flood of meetings next week that were due are shrinking (relief).....one on Monday been cancelled, one on Tuesday is not a 'must' so might miss that one and I've got the counsellor on Wednesday before a big meeting Thursday. Then we're on leave for ten blissful days ! Well hope they're blissful......depends on OH's back whether we go off for a couple of nights at Travel Lodge and deposit easter stuff for grandkids. Must be positive and give off the right kind of vibes..........then I'll get them back hopefully.

My little 'thought for the day' (found it in a little book I've got)

'That the birds of worry and care fly above your head -this you cannot change.
But that they build nests in your hair - this you can prevent.'

    Thanks for that quote mary43.

Good luck with the counsellor Wednesday. From where I am standing - I think you've made a good start already.

    ceridwen - I hope so..............well I'm trying anyway.
Love the quote.............might be just the one to send to my brother (wealth -two places in Spain, no worries etc.)
He can't fathom out why my life isn't parallel to his .........why I don't have money, a place in the sun and why I get so emotional about things. How do you explain to someone like that, that it's not what I want to be. I don't like the cold weather but I like the changing seasons, the colours on the trees in the autumn, money is only as important as we make it. We all need enough to feed and clothe ourselves, keep the roof over our head etc but how much does 'enough' need to be ?
Poor old big bruv.............he doesn't understand why I need to see a counsellor and thinks I should listen to his 'words of wisdom' ...........then maybe I could be like him ?????? .............I think not ! Despite the tears and the way I've been feeling of late I am me, I like me, I'm happy being me, I like my lifestyle,I love my friends and the (sometimes ) very troublesome kids we care for and seeing them turn their lives around and I get a kind of thrill out of seeing the smile on someones face if something I've said or done has made them feel better.
To me that's wealth enough. Not sure Big Bruv would understand that.
And as for his 'words of wisdom' - think I'll pass on that one.......

People do function in different ways. There is nothing wrong with being a more "emotional" sort of person. The 2 people that instantly rise to mind as by far the nicest people I know (the "angel in our midst" I mentioned in an earlier post) and the friend who sent me todays YouTube clip are both extremely emotional people - nowt whatsoever wrong with that. They understand emotional little ceridwen and they are both (deservedly) popular people. You should have seen just how many people turned up at an unexpected party of "the angel in our midst" friend or sent her cards and flowers recently when she needed them!!!

As I said - nowt wrong with being a more "emotional" sort of person.
