Thanks Ellidee - will do.
Have now received the book Champys kindly sent and it looks like it will be very useful to read. Mary - if you want to put in a reservation at the library. Its:
"I dont know what to say" - by Dr Robert Buckman0 -
Re being 'emotional' - people who are aware of their feelings and the feelings of others are to be treasured because they have emotional intelligence - just as valid and necessary as intellectual intelligence - in fact more so - where would the world be without sensitive people, the people who like Mary are caring, think of others, can empathise and who provide comfort where it is needed? Who so often are the people who pick up the pieces and show consideration and care for others less fortunate than themselves.
Mary, I would be so thrilled if you were my neighbour or relative, or if I were one of the troubled teenagers you look after. Your value to your world is beyond price - don't you ever forget that! Same goes for ceridwen, Aril, Becky, wmf and everyone else who contributes to this caring, thoughtful thread, and in so doing brightens the lives of others.
Kindness is the most simple thing, but it requires emotional intelligence to be applied and supplied!!
Simply yours

Hi there,
Back for another visit before I am off again.
I was thrilled on my day off to sit and catch up with the Simplifying Life Thread. It was just what I needed to clear my head and sort out my muddled mind which needed decluttering and some inspiration.
I am sorry to hear of Ceridwen's and Mary43's tough times and send my best wishes to you both.
The quotes and links to websites are great and I have bookmarked some of them for later.
My decluttering is on hold for a while but raring to get started with it again. I will be back soon for a virtual cup of tea/ coffee/ lemonade/ etc. with everyone. Take care.
Best wishes:hello:0 -
groatie queen great post Thank you :TNothing is so fatiguing as the eternal hanging on of an uncompleted task. William James0

I only lurk on this thread, I try and read this at least every couple of days, but I had to post - THANK YOU ARIL - that quote was beautiful, and reminds me that when my DS is being a pain, that I should welcome it not put him off, as the time is precious. He wont be little for ever, he is already 5 and growing so fast. I am the centre of his world at the moment - I should enjoy it for the gift it is.

Hello everyone,
I've found another really good book from the library called " The Procrastinator's Handbook " by Rita Emmett. If like me your house is cluttered and your life complicated because you always put things off this is the book for you! It not only tells you how to stop procrastinating (gosh that takes some typing!!), but how to find WHY you are doing so.
One good tip which I will share is "Twelve Tips for having less chaos at home":
1. Have company over once in a while so the house gets cleaned
2. Use your TV time to pay bills, fold laundry, sort through catalogues etc
(didn't get this one, can you do all this AND watch TV?)
3. Tidy up during commercials.
4.When decluttering a room, start at the door and go right or left. Then if you're interrupted you can pick up where you left off.
5. Don't declutter and clean on the same day, you might keel over, poor thing!
6. Keep all your house information (insurance, warranties, receipts, instruction books) together in a file, binder, drawer, desk or paper bag.
7. Never climb stairs empty handed as long as there is something to be taken upstairs.
8. Never leave a room empty-handed until all of the items left in the room belong there.
9. Glance over your shoulder before you leave a room. Pick up any clutter you spot and take it with you to put away/dispose of.
10. Learn to delegate.
11. Learn to ignore. Relationships are more important than chasing dust.
12.Hire someone to clean your house, even if it's only once in a great while!
I've copied these out to hang in my kitchen, hopefully I will continue to put them into practice!0 -
Hi again, forgot to mention Rita Emmett has a really good website as well, https://www.ritaemmett.com.0

Thanks Fozz - will have a look at that website.
Good rules to bear in mind - I would just make the slight adaptation on not decluttering and cleaning at the same time - that it could be useful to do so to some extent to declutter as one cleans. In that one of the things I do is that when I springclean a room with books in (thats most of them in my house) at the same time I am giving a book a quick dust over I decide whether I wish to keep it any longer - rather than having a specific declutter. I figure once a year is sufficiently close enough intervals in that respect to keep on top of things. One could do that generally with that type of thing - but its just the way it suits me to do things.0 -
ceridwen, have just noticed your sig - love it!

Thanks groatie queen for your kind words. I felt moved to read it and shall rememeber those sentences when I have a moment where I wish I was different. Eventhough I wouldn't like to be any other way. I have noticed that the more honest and open I am the more I get in return from others!
Mary - I am sure most news agents would be more than happy to order the March issue of the Psychologies magazine.
Today I feel really proud of myself, yesterday I spent 2 hours choosing clothes for my skiing holiday next Sunday. Just so that I can be sure that everything I want to take with me is washed, ironed etc, normally I pack last minute and it's a really nice feeling to know that all clothes are already choosen. I hope to start putting in photos in my photo album from my last holiday last year.
Have a nice weekend and thanks again for everybody's kind words.
Becky
