Completion day on a property I already live in

I'm sure we've had a previous thread about a similar transaction, with the buyer fretting that they'd somehow have to give themselves vacant possession on the day...Titus_Wadd said:S'pose it'd be a little churlish to ring your solicitor complaining the previous tenant's stuff is still in there and you don't have vacant possession!

Thanks for that @Titus_Wadd made my morning. Again, I agree with the suggestions above.Remember, however tempting it is to change things now, be patient. Wait until you complete. That doesn't mean you can't plan what changes you'd like to do.May you find your sister soon Helli.
Sleep well.1 -
If you do change the door barrel put a turn lock barrel as a replacement.

When I bought the flat I was renting I changed the locks the day we completed and had a brand new washing machine installed. It did feel like a bit of an anticlimax!
Glad you've already got the deposit back because our letting agents was a total pain about it and insisted on getting our landlord to agree to release it even though we were technically our own landlords at that point. I think they were put out that I blocked them from getting a sweet sweet referral fee from our landlord.
I hope everything has gone smoothly for you today. Enjoy your new old home!0 -
Hope it all went splendidly OP
Our first home was a rented flat we subsequently bought from the LL. We went for a walk around the block when we completed and had a bottle of fizz on our return.2 -
Thanks to everyone for their lovely reassuring comments and suggestions.
All went well and I'm the proud owner of my lovely home. I got the call in the supermarket so did a little happy dance and shed a few tears.
Planted a cherry tree and cleared the garden, followed by a toast and some food with family and friends.
It was a bittersweet days because my husband died in October but glad to stay put and keep my memories of our home where they belong.19 -

It was a bittersweet days because my husband died in October but glad to stay put and keep my memories of our home where they belong.I came to your thread too late, but was going to suggest you spent the weekend packing random stuff in random boxes. Make sure to include a damp tea towel & hand towel in separate boxes, all your cutlery and the kettle, then pile the boxes up with the fragile/useful stuff at the bottom & heavy books, ornaments etc on top. Bash some furniture against doors for good measure. Then do a frantic deep clean @ 03.30 on Monday, sleep on a mattress on the floor & let your phone battery run down. Only then will you know the true joy of a more typical Completion day.And our removers were some of the better ones😳1 -
What an absolutely wonderful thread - congratulations on your very own home, albeit I'm sad to hear of your loss as well.
