I may just tie a ribbon across the door to cut!Martico said:Buy yourself a comedy outsize pair of scissors and a ribbon to cut, make your own fanfare🙂4 -
You could plant a small tree or shrub in the garden, then as it grows you can think ‘I planted that the day the house was mine’Fashion on the Ration

Thanks people, looks like everything is covered. I'm thanking my lucky stars that it's all been so smooth!
Your suggestions have both reassured and amused me - bubbles are in the fridge and going out for brunch to see if I get the call while I'm out so I can walk back into my "new" house!2 -
That is a wonderful idea for multiple reasons. I may go and buy one tomorrow - I think I might get a patio cherry or other fruit tree, then every year when it fruits it'll remind me.Sarahspangles said:You could plant a small tree or shrub in the garden, then as it grows you can think ‘I planted that the day the house was mine’7 -

I'd invite the LL round for a quick drink on completion (but you suggest he's a way away so this probably won't be the case) as you suggest he's been amazing.
I love some of the other ideas here though, enjoy your new home!💙💛 💔2 -

Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

First thing you have to do as soon as it is confirmed it is yours is do all the things you weren't allowed to as a tenant. Get a dog, start smoking indoors, nail a load of pictures to the wall etc...4

Congratulations Op! Nothing to do but wait for the phone call :-) Out of curiosity - how much better (or worse?) off a month are you in your mortgage payments vs rent payments?
If you are better off, maybe try and get into the habit of squirriling the difference away into a bank account to act as a emergency maintainence fund now you will be 100% responsible for upkeep of the property!5 -
S'pose it'd be a little churlish to ring your solicitor complaining the previous tenant's stuff is still in there and you don't have vacant possession!

Enjoy the moment and years to come!15
