Completion day on a property I already live in
emotionalrollercoaster
I'm a FTB buying a house I currently rent.
Completion day is on Monday. Mortgage has been drawn down and monies with my conveyancer.
I've received additional sets of keys and all of the guarantees/buildings regs documents etc.
What will actually happen on Monday?
Will my conveyancer just phone to say I now own the property?
I feel like there should be some sort of fanfare but looking at what normally happens on completion day (moving, key collection etc), none of that applies!
It's the weekend so I can't speak to my conveyancer and just feeling a little anxious/curious!

I would have thought so. Perfect way to do it - no packing/unpacking/cleaning/finding space for furniture/finding the reason why the settee was against that particular wall (bodged wallpaper/carpet fitting/massive crack).
Enjoy being a home owner. Be warned- things that worked perfectly when they were the landlord’s responsibility will suddenly decide to break out of sheer spite.18 -
It sounds like you have all the keys from the landlord and their agent - so that's good.
Have you already exchanged contracts - or are you exchanging and completing on Monday?
You should arrange Buildings Insurance from whatever date you exchange contracts. If you pay rent by standing order, I guess you need to cancel that.
If you're planning to exchange and complete on Monday, there's a possibility that something could go wrong - and it might be delayed. But in your circumstances, it's unlikely.

Enjoy your home, when you own it. I might still change the locks depending on how long since it was let to previous tenants who might have copies of any keys.3

Absolutely nothing for you to do apart from start paying a mortgage rather than rent.
I suppose you could move out, sit in a removal van for a few hours, and then move back in if you really wanted to...9 -
Don't forget on completion day to stop paying rent. And if applicable ask for your deposit returned.
I suppose some would say change the locks if you don't trust the landlord to have kept a set?2 -
Just to round out the whole buying experienceuser1977 said:Absolutely nothing for you to do apart from start paying a mortgage rather than rent.

Sounds like a marvellous way to move house. Suggest you head out to the shops on Monday morning and buy a bottle of bubbly, by the time you get back it may have all happened and we can pop round and do the fanfare for you as you walk back through the front door
and yes agree with @Bonniepurple something will decide to break down by the end of the week - start making a list of plumbers. electricians and handymen

If it was me I'd spend this weekend rearranging the furniture. Sofa on a different wall, bed on the other side kinda thing. Then it's your 'new' home when it completes on Monday

When I've actual been moving home, the tradition has been a cup of tea and Chinese takeaway eaten from the containers using disposable chopsticks (because the forks and plates are packed...)
Maybe spend the weekend while you're worrying thinking about how you would like to celebrate? Buying a house isn't exactly fun and stress free - the successful completion of the process deserves some recognition
I'm not an early bird or a night owl; I’m some form of permanently exhausted pigeon.2 -
Do you know when you are 'scheduled to complete'?If you do, it might be worth making sure you're out when you get the call so you can walk in to your 'new' home.Again these all might seem trivial but it is psychologically different going into a home you own as opposed to one you rent, so worth it just to get that feeling.Don't forget to ensure your rent payments end and buildings insurance is sorted.May you find your sister soon Helli.
