Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.7 -
Already exchanged, just completing Monday so I think I might be in the clear!eddddy said:
It sounds like you have all the keys from the landlord and their agent - so that's good.
Have you already exchanged contracts - or are you exchanging and completing on Monday?
You should arrange Buildings Insurance from whatever date you exchange contracts. If you pay rent by standing order, I guess you need to cancel that.
If you're planning to exchange and complete on Monday, there's a possibility that something could go wrong - and it might be delayed. But in your circumstances, it's unlikely.
Buildings insurance done, rent cancelled and deposit returned (landlord reminded me - bless that man).
I love the idea of being out and walking into my "new" house when I return!10 -
Planning to change back door lock anyway but good idea to think of changing all the locks. We've been in the property 8 years, so unlikely to be a problem.Titus_Wadd said:Enjoy your home, when you own it. I might still change the locks depending on how long since it was let to previous tenants who might have copies of any keys.1 -
It's a really good idea to do that!Flugelhorn said:Sounds like a marvellous way to move house. Suggest you head out to the shops on Monday morning and buy a bottle of bubbly, by the time you get back it may have all happened and we can pop round and do the fanfare for you as you walk back through the front door
and yes agree with @Bonniepurple something will decide to break down by the end of the week - start making a list of plumbers. electricians and handymen
Landlord has given me all warranties and a list of tradesmen he's used over the years (we know a lot of them from being here so long). So hoping if something does decide to break I'll be sorted!
Bubbly in the fridge and got a few people coming round to celebrate 🍾5 -
All done! I trust the landlord implicitly - he was the one that reminded me I had a deposit to return. Paid apportioned rent today (only £70 and landlord wasn't bothered but he has been fantastic so wanted to do it as a nice gesture)ProDave said:Don't forget on completion day to stop paying rent. And if applicable ask for your deposit returned.
I suppose some would say change the locks if you don't trust the landlord to have kept a set?3 -
I'm going to gradually start renovating over the next few months - needs modernising and a new bathroom and kitchen but nothing urgent.YoungBlueEyes said:If it was me I'd spend this weekend rearranging the furniture. Sofa on a different wall, bed on the other side kinda thing. Then it's your 'new' home when it completes on Monday
Love that idea though!1 -
It’s now your castle so you should probably invite the former landlord round and pour boiling oil on him out of a window. That or make him a pot of tea.Fashion on the Ration

Sending him a gift - would definitely offer to make him a cuppa though if he was closer.Sarahspangles said:It’s now your castle so you should probably invite the former landlord round and pour boiling oil on him out of a window. That or make him a pot of tea.2
