Lloyds Bank cards are simply horrendous, they simply never work. Hopefully the new design will have sorted the issues, although they randomly decline and send false error codes to a database which doesn’t even properly store them.
I think you're misappropriating transaction problems to the physical card. The amount of stuff the built in chip does is very limited.

It seems very wasteful that they need to have all these several SKUs of cards with the account names on, which they wouldn't have needed in the past.

It’s more the package as a whole, without the actual transaction working, there’s not much point on the cards. Honestly, I just think Lloyds Banking Group needs a complete overhaul. Lloyds was so much better as Lloyds TSB and cards were better too.

I guess people have different experiences with all these different banking groups. For example I’ve had awful experiences with Virgin Money, which I’ve gone into in a little and limited detail in other threads, but you mention they’ve been really good for you.

The only real concern I’ve had with LBG is the misquoted rate in the recent everyday saver confirmation emails - apart from that, I’ve found them great. Several of their features, such as the in app cheque depositing with high limits, have been very helpful, and I don’t have access to such services elsewhere.

TSB left Lloyds, Lloyds did not leave TSB. In other words, Lloyds Bank uses the same system it did when it was called Lloyds TSB. TSB branches and customers were moved to a new system once TSB was sold off.

The design of the card has nothing to do with its functionality. I have just opened an account with Lloyds (I was previously a customer a few years ago) They gave me a new account and overdraft at once, which is more than I can say for Barclays. The original Barclays card I received had no silver on the numbers, so you could hardly see them. it arrived like that. The premier card is decent however. I am waiting for the Lloyds card to arrive.

Hopefully the new card design will sort out the issue also of the silver rubbing off the card after a short while, seemed to be an issue frequently with not just Lloyds Bank but other banks too.

When the card arrives I've always put clear tape over the numbers, won't have to do that for much longer.

I received a new debit card for my Club Lloyds account last week but it was the old style with the embossed numbers on the front.
