If I've got everything correct, my heaters should all turn themselves on automatically when the Agile price falls below zero overnight and off again when they rise. Done using smart switches, a Smartthings hub and IFTTT. Hopefully I'll wake up a rich man tomorrow morning! Well, not very rich because heaters are on a low setting but it will be good to test the principle and see if all the controls are set up correctly.

Quite apart from the money saving, using smart technology to automate energy saving has become an interesting challenge and almost a hobby :-)

Just a note to say that there slots tomorrow Sunday - 9am to 10.30am and 12pm to 3.30pm with negative pricing.

Not had an email / push alert but noticed in the online account.

More very low rates from Agile tonight - less than 2p/kWh. I've got to the stage now where I can automatically heat my hot water during the cheapest 1/2 slot. Means that I've managed to average about 6p/kWh over the last 3 months. The key thing for me is the daytime volatility - regardless of the average as long as there's a big difference between the peak and trough I'm in the money. Admittedly a low user this time of year, using about 6 or 7 kWh a day of which about half is bought and half comes from my solar panels.

    Long may it continue :-)

How are other Agile users doing?
  • I have switched to tracker.  Was always my goal but couldn't get on it immediately so went with Agile for the interim.

No solar, no batteries, no EV, GCH and nothing that I can load shift to night time.

Agile has saved me approx £50 per month compared to flexible but Tracker saves me another £5 to £10 with no effort on my part to load shift or plan

Makes perfect sense to me. I suspect that there are a number of people in the same situation who went with Agile for the same reason. Unless you're going to actively manage to your use to take advantage of the cheapest time of day then Tracker makes much more sense.

Were you already on Agile through last Winter and did you see similar savings in the winter months as well?

I’m in a similar position to you. I couldn’t get on tracker as I had an E7 smart meter that needed altering remotely so opted for agile. I’m still waiting for whatever Octopus need to do before I can complete my switch.   I don’t have an EV solar battery etc but have load shifted and saved about £10 over Tracker with Agile in the month I’ve been waiting so not too disappointed. However it’s been hard work aided by price plunges, so I still want to switch to Tracker.

Nope, was stuck on flexible then.

Last winter's prices were massively distorted by the EPG so I don't think you can do a useful comparison. It will certainly be interesting to see what this winter holds in store. Although I'm doing well out of Agile at the moment (with very little effort due to the amount of automation) I'm not wedded to it and I'm ready to switch back to E7 or whatever proves best if things change. My planning is on the basis that there is so much uncertainty in the energy market at the moment that it's impossible to predict what will happen this winter with any degree of confidence. So my approach is simply to choose what's best for me now (and nothing comes close to Agile), monitor it closely and switch if I need to.

i cant load shift and am currently on the price capped SVR. Pondering agile but then in October theres another price cap which is likely to be lower still so potential savings are likely to be less with agile. Just wondering if tracker might be an option with the new cap coming in October?
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..
