IOG hasn't been competitive for about 2 years, Edf and Eon equivalents are much cheaper.

That's arguable. For me at least, EON Next Drive Smart would be more expensive. EDF Go Electric might save me a penny a kWh on average, but that's only £30 a year or so.

And until April this year, IOG was cheaper than EDF too. It's only since prices went up from 5p to 8p that EDF have crept ahead with their 7p rate.

Day rate (05:30 - 23:30) 40.34p / kWh

Standing charge 70.08p / day

EDF

Night rate (23:00 - 06:00) 6.99p / kWh

Day rate 12 mo tariff 36.54p / kWh

Day rate 18 mo tariff 34.55p / kWh

Standing charge 76.45p / day

So an extra hour off peak and Edf also credit back £5 / month for enabling smart charging. Standing charge is harsher byt effectively covererd in the first kwh savings on the 18 month option.

Obviously for those with battery, savings are negligible other than the £60 / year for enabling smart charging.

I use Octopus Compare to see how much my bills would be on Flexible tariff and latest 12m fixed.

The app is great as it gives you the daily cost for those tafiffs. And if I ignore the negative days as I've done things I wouldn't normally do ie used electric radiators then I'm worse off this month by a tenner roughly. Fine with that.

Is there anywhere that gives the historic average daily rates for Agile? I know I can look at my bills but what I'd really like to be able to do is grab them from somewhere to stick in a spreadsheet for future reference.

Energy-Stats UK has a plot of average half hourly Agile pricing for the last 365 days. From the Agile menu at the top, pick your region and give the page a few seconds to pull in all the data and fully load.

The Octopus API should allow you to pull historical data and produce your own charts similar to above, but maybe Mick's stats are what you are looking for anyway?

There were neagtive prices just day before - so one would probably do all they could then, also next negative prices were 3 days later.

In such case my suage would have been 10kWh day before (all washing, massive roast for 3 days etc.) then I would use max 3kWh on the 13th. 10x0 + 3x35= £1.05 - and thats below 10p/kWh.

I would only struggle with itbin winter but even then, its only 20% more than SVR, so it will dillute in monthly bill.

I booked two free hours for tomorrow, but it turns out both are negative hours! So I've cancelled them, since presumably if I book a free hour when otherwise they would pay me, I am paying to be a complete sap.

Apparently I have 8 free hours in the bank but no way to spend them!

Frankly, the big advantage of a fix is, I can just sit quietly and read a book :-) .. not sure it makes much difference, financially.

I did manage to use one free hour a few weeks ago , but still have 6 in the bank. If the worst case is that I don't get to use any more because every sunday left has negative hours, then I am not going to be complaining.
