I wondering if I should jump onto a fix. A 4pm - 7pm peak is manageable but this is crazy. Mind you I lived through the peaks of Ukraine? but I can't see this blowing over

I’m taking a level-headed approach and reminding myself that my average so far this month is 9.4p per KWh… even with this nasty spike it’s unlikely to push my September average much above half the SVR so still very much quids-in with Agile.

Things looking better from Thursday… however if this is a taste of winter to come then a Battery + EDF EV tariff @ 6.66p overnight is on the cards.

Well, I hope not to pay too much! I'll be avoiding any evening use as much as possible and cook with solar during the day. Mind you it's still sunny until 7ish so won't be penalised by the worst hour.

Tomorrow seems slightly less hideous. Need to have a sit down and look at the swings and roundabouts in detail - a cursory glace suggests that I'm actually coming out at a lower cost than last year so far. Ending April with a credit situation certainly helped …

But they are always going to be at times when Agile prices are lower. And we've had several very long runs of negative prices recently.

You certainly have to take a longer term view with Agile. Some people do very posh calculations with lots of functions in their spreadsheets and extensive collection of data. Personally I look at the unit rate on my bill, which last time (9th September) was 15.16p a unit, so October's will be interesting..

Having said that I looked at IOG today, and although I didn't look in to how much cheap rate I'd have to use overnight to make it pay was somewhat startled to see that the day rate is 38~p!

If I drove more miles in my EV or had domestic batteries or didn't have solar the calculation would be different, but at the moment I feel disinclined to really investigate and am happy enough at 15-16p, even if earlier in the year it was cheaper.

IIOG hasn't been competitive for about 2 years, Edf and Eon equivalents are much cheaper. I suppose they have to fund their silly pointless fish game somehow.
