Yet to have a problem with Aliexpress electricals over more than a decade, from main relays to turn on an electric heater when solar reached a certain level to boom-boxes with lots of power tools and the odd tablet in between. Something that sells for a tenner on Aliexpress straight from the factory costs two to three times as much in Blighty, maybe ten times as much if a Premium brand puts a label on it. A lot of the time you are not paying for extra quality but for all the overhead, marketing, advertising, etc. Almost everything now comes with a ninety day, free return to UK depot, warranty so sending junk would be a pointless exercise. There are scam companies but they can usually be spotted via the reviews or avoided if they have just started selling stuff.

Yep, and also the entire cost of battery - let's say someone paid £5k for 10kWh battery, inverter etc.
If we assume battery lasts 15 years - max you can top it up is 3650kWh* a year, so 54750kWh over it's life.

    £5000 / 54750kWh = 9p/kWh

So each kWh actually costs at least 9p + charged rate..

*sure, you can charge more than once a day, but that shortens the battery life.
Batteries are usually specified in number of cycles, not elapsed time, also usually at around 80% of rated capacity, so charging twice a day doesn't gain anything.  But you are on the right track, energy from a battery 'costs' 10-15p per unit more that the energy costs ;-)  There are way way better ways of saving that don't involve several thousands of pounds up front. ... and that's why we don't have one.

Batteries might however be 'çool', and if you want to have some fun charging and discharging, who am I to question it? It's just not "Money Saving", which is the point of the forum?

tomorrows prices are out,  a few cheap slots during the night, but was expecting a lot cheaper in the 24hrs than what we are being charged

Considering its supposed to be blowing a gale in much of the country, the prices don't seem to reflect that.

I think that’s the problem, if it’s too windy sometimes the wind turbines are switched off

Yesterday, wind supplied less than 3% of our electricity.
    Today so far, it's ~30%.

With the 22.30 slot at 13p tomorrow, hopefully get a nice Saturday?

Wife suggested putting a wash on, hanging it out and letting the wind dry it  :)

Winds forecast to be 80-100+ mph in parts of Scotland, NI and Isle of Man, and 60-80mph in the wider amber warning areas, so while the rest of Britain's wind turbines might be doing okay they'll definitely be needing to be turned off in some areas!

If it’s dry enough I may well peg washing out tomorrow/saturday - having experience of keeping one’s smalls on the line in Hebridean levels of wind comes in handy sometimes!
