Why do Octopus insist on customers having a battery or EV for some of their tariffs?0

Some of the rates are going to be low margin so I guess they need you to use lots of energy on those rates to make a decent profit, it should be obvious from the bill if you are running an EV or heat pump though it would probably cost more to check than they could get back by changing you to another tariff, which might then make you look elsewhere. The Cosy tariff does say if you are going to fit a HP then you can go on it before it has been fitted but also says they can put you back on a std tariff if they investigate.0

Without the stuff, you can't have the tariff.
Pretty simple really?
I think part of the Octopus ethos is about moving people to stuff that we ultimately need to have to `save the planet'
Whether you believe in saving the planet, or just improving the quality of the air we breath is up to you.
But lots of people are in favour of this, and these tariffs make the journey less financially painful.
If everybody could get the same by doing nothing, then that is just what many people would do, nothing would change.2 -
I think octopus EV tariffs might actually cost octopus more to provide the customer than they charge them.
Which is why such tariffs aren't available to everyone.
So they are subsidising things that they feel are good for the environment.
I'm not sure if that's still the case, but certainly used to be.PPI success. Banding success. Double Dip PCN cancelled! South facing solar (Midlands) and battery. Savings Session supporter (is it worth it now!?)1 -
