@paul2louise your hubby must have the patience of a saint!! I would have been round her house months ago demanding my inheritance and not moving until I got it!! Sincerely hope he gets what is rightfully his before too long.
OP, how close do you live to SiL?  (It's probably buried in the thread somewhere.)

Are you able to visit?  Notice anything obvious about possible spending that's been going on?
We live in Nottinghamshire she lives in Cambridgeshire. So about 90 mins away and hubby would not go anywhere near her now all this has happened.

Hasn’t the OP already said the funds are in mil’s account which her husband still has access to hence can see the balance? Perhaps the latest accountant is trying to close these accounts (finally) and sort the tax position?
Money was in MIL account but he doesn't have access anymore. The money is still there as solicitors have been taking about the amount. It's all about the costs now. And that is what needs sorting out, either neither includes or both include the costs

There'll be nothing left after costs, the way this is going!!!

     :(

What are your DH's cost so far?
How's it going, AKA, Nutwatch? - 12 month spends to date = 2.60% of current retirement "pot" (as at end May 2025)

Who decides that, agreement between both parties or it has to go to court (which I would guess entails even more costs)?

Has there been any progress at all in the last 10 days?

With the Easter Bank Holidays looming, that'll be "another" excuse she can throw out, for things not progressing.

I had a heart leap when I saw this has jumped up the board again. I really thought there was a conclusion. I agree with the above. Over the next  couple of months  there are 3 bank hol weekend coming up (Easter, Mayday and late spring) which gives Sis_IL more scope for delaying tactics. I would make a decision about the costs of both parties and insist she hands over half of the estate.

No heart leaping yet, email from  hubs solicitor today says that SIL solicitor wants hubs costs (~2k) to not be included as they are beneficiary costs but her costs  (~4k) as executor to be included. Hubs solicitor thinks to push her costs down as some must also be beneficiary. My thoughts are that hub wouldn't have needed to pay ANY costs if she hasn't been such a selfish ***** and her costs are high because of all her messing about. Hub is having a think and will reply to solicitor tomorrow I think.

might be (annoyingly ) - that you have to forgo the 2k but she also has to forgo 2k (as beneficiary)  and split the remaining 2k (execs costs) out of the estate

I'd be agreeing to almost anything at this point to just get it over the line.

Let her have her petty "win", get the inheritance paid, and move on.

I think that's a reasonable compromise suggested by Flugelhorn  tbh, third it, your hubby pays his £2K costs, she matches by paying her share of £2K costs and £2k come out of the estate (total cost to each party £3K, exactly the same as if the whole £6K was borne by the estate). I totally see your DH wouldn't have any costs if his sister had played fair in the first place but without you starting this thread about it then she might just have never given him any at all considering all her excuses.
