Saving lots in pots!

its friday again, hmmm, well actually its Saturday and i completetly missed yesterday, it was crazy busy.

Xmas fund is doing well its now sitting at £430.30

everything else is in a bit of a muddle.

Im trying to work out just how Im going to pay the uni fees and its troubling me!

DS1 was offered his halls and the deposit had to be paid within 48 hours!! The costs are crazy its going to be £8200 and the maintencace loan he will get is only £4600!! parents are meant to top up the £5300. But even when (if) we do that DS will be left with £1000 for the year for everything else!!!! I have no idea how much he will need for the year, but I know it will be a lot than that! DS is autistic and has mental health issues so working is probaby not going to happen at least to start with.

DH and I need to sit down and do some serious working out. Even more so as DS2 is taking a gap year and then he will also be going to uni!!!

scary ~ and Im still trying to save, I would also like to pay the mortgage off ~ not much chance at the moment though!!

Put less into the EF if you keep dipping into it, give yourself a couple of weeks to straighten up before resuming or altering budgets.

Ouch to the halls. Have you looked to see if there's any other support available due to his health? I'm assuming P1P is claimed.

Yes you are right I should stop the EF fund for a while, it would help.

He is currently waiting for a student disability assessment. But i dont think think is much more than the offer of a laptop and maybe printer to help with his dyslexia. I have never claimed P1P for DS1 or DD. I know i could def claim for DD. Not sure whats stopped me, apart form the forms. I alwayd been releuctant and now DS1 is 20 I assume he wouldnt get it anyway. Maybe I should take a look

morning, Dogo went back to the vets yesterday and they are happy with the progress. Which is such a relief as he has been really hard to stop the jumping and I was worried it would have caused more problems.

However 4 more weeks of no jumping!!!

Time for Fridays round up.........

• EF £50 added this week ~ had a better week this week. Also have decided to pay in my prolific money here for a while as this account if feeding my EF savers acc. So £29 and £16 have also been added £925.91 ~ now im only £74.09 away from my first £1000 whoop de whoop!!
  
• Xmas 1p challenge now ~ £445.83 / £667.00 ~ yey, loving this.
  
• Health pot plus £10 this week ~ tooth is complaining so i need to get this looked it, it will prob empty this pot very quickly.
  
• Car Maint plus £20 this week ~ car ins due next week so this will get empited unfrtunately. And i need have a short fall of about £150 plus september is MOT and it will need a service and at least 1 new tyre.
  
• Pension Pot £15 added and need to move £150 over to pension
  
• ISA  £0 added this week. (sniff)
• 52 week cash envelop stuffing challenge ~£32 added this week
  
• Uni pot sold a lawn mower for £60 and some old scales on the bay, but they have broken in transit! So need to refund their money! need to peak to DH to see the total as i dont have access to this acc.
  

i do need to rememver that i only started these pots a few months ago so have not saved up enough to cover the annual costs ~ but i should be in a much better place next year!

P1P is a working age benefit therefore your kids are potentially missing out on extra financial support. Help them get those forms in!

What age is your car as potentially an oil filter and change, plus MOT and repairs for MOT could save you quite a bit of money. Next year do your normal service when you've had time to save up. If it's a PCP or other lease car then you'll have to do it this time.

Yes, remember you've only been saving a while, the first year is find your feet and after that it's easier to know how much can realistically be saved.

Thank you  @MovingForwards ~ that was the nudge i needed. I have just spent the last hour and a half starting fill in the DLA form for DD (as she is under 16) ANy extra money would allow me to take do some extra things like a horse riding lesson whch due to the expense and her only able to cope with a 1 to 1 lesson means they are too expensive! This would be a great help. JUst need to finish the form and print off a million reports and get it all together. BUT i have started it!! And once ive done DDs i will look at the PIP for DS1 Thanks again, FLowers x

morning, time for some reflection ,

Some days it just feels that im getting nowhere with my savings, So ive had a bit of a think and actually when I break it down And looks at the pot I have, Ive actually done ok.!!

 Things have been put in place that werent there before. ie the pension! Being self employed and very part time I just didnt get round to setting one up. But its done now and Im adding £15.00 a week. Plus all my side hustle, business number 2!!! is going straight in there so currently an extra £135 a month. So thats £195 a month. But the side hustle althoughat the moment is coming in, it could change any time!

I also opened a S&S isa for spare pennies, but have stopped adding to that recently

Im also saving for xmas on the penny a day chalenge I pop £15 a week across. This is something Ive never done before and cant believe Ive never though seriously about doing it, its crazy especially as its an extra expensive time for us due to 3 close family birthdays in the run up to xmas.

And then On top Im also popping money away for the EF and pots for health and the car (which by next year will hopefully really help, this year there wasnt yet quite enough in them, buti had two thirds of the car ins saved so that at least was a help)

So today I cam going to be happy with what I have achieved, rather than focusing on what I havent.

I think i will set goals for next year for the pots and challenges, I think this will help me stay on track for the year. Not that Im wavering, but I have noticed that when I reached the challenge target for prolific and when the tax pot money was raised I have been rubbish at doing the surveys and less focused.

I am now finished work for the week. Although I do have to clear up and clean up and do my accounts (which are seriously behind)

I had hoped to spend a while in the garden. I am determined to get more on top of the overgrown tangle of weeds and plants that it is at the moment. It is a never ending battle. But its raning and is showing no signs of letting up. SO i will try and make some gooseberry chutney this afternoon instead. As well as some tutoring for my healing work I need to do this evening.

 

So plan for rest of day:

Chutney ~ made 2 and half jars and three porions of stewed goos gogs for the freezer!

Tutoring ~done and now finished for the forseeable

Accounts ~?

Clearup and clean up work stuff ~?

Will also see if there are any surveys around ~Done picked up a couple a £2.50 and a £1.00

feel very pleased that the pension pot and the EF are coming along. But I also know that i have the dentist this afternoon and that might lead to wiping out my health pot and more! We shall see!!

I also must bank my money, havent done last weeks or this weeks yet!
