Damn bad luck. Cardiff court is often terrible for parking case defendants but there's nothing you can do.  You've done it all if your WS is already in.

Has this all been a waste of time for me then? Hopefully it doesn't end up costing me too much

Hard to tell.  You definitely got unlucky with a hearing on the papers because there's no reason for DCB to discontinue.

Worst case scenario in that I lose could I end up paying hundreds of pounds here for claimant costs etc? I'm quite worried now

Or is it maximum of the total of the claim which is £255 including court fees and the claimant costs?

    Maximum is the claim/court fees.

They can't have costs.  Small claims is designed to avoid that and if it's a hearing on the papers there are no more legal costs than are already on the claim (capped at £50).

There is NO POINT thinking about paying (in case you were beating yourself up a out this). You may well win because your defence and WS were good.  And there's no advantage to trying to pay now.

Had the hearing today (not in person). Is there any way to view the decision? Or do I have to wait for it in writing? Have heard nothing today

You will have to wait for the Judge's written (short, no details of rationale) decision from the Court in February sometime.

Let us know either way. Damn bad luck it's Cardiff court, inflicting this on people in cases that would otherwise have been discontinued with no Judge being troubled by any DCB Legal claims at all.

I have another one to fight - went over a parking line by about an inch in a retail park. I'll ask for another court next time where a hearing in person more likely - any recommendations of for a more favourable court

Southampton or Wakefield will often strike parking claims out.  No hearing even needed!
