Your lifestyle is fab and you are living my hopefully not too far off dream xx
@SuzeQStan It would be interesting to hear your plans for the future and how your retirement income is looking? Maybe a thread for you too?

Ooh haven’t thought of doing that before as I learn so much on these forums - I will give it some consideration.

sadly have discovered today that my NI / state pension forecast was incorrect by a few years 😱😓 which has left me somewhat deflated.   So plans might be more delayed than hoped for.

But in the meantime I enjoy cheering on - and learning from - SYA’s experience. 😊🥰

Mortgage freedom January 2024 - paid off 7 years early by making overpayments where we could.

  • You've summed the year up well and we can all feel happiness radiating in the updates. You have achieved a lot in a short space of time.

Maybe some of your old friends could come up for a long weekend or holiday.

I'm sure PD misses you too, as will PD2.

Look where your closest Wi is as they've so many activities and you're bound to find a few things to join.
Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.
  • Thanks Baron_Dale, SQS and MF 😊

SQS hope you don’t mind me asking what was wrong with your sp forecast and how did you find out ?

I’ve just checked mine again and it says I have 39 full years and cannot increase the amount.

As I was contracted out for so many years, I will have paid 47 years by April 2024! This will give me a full new state pension minus a few pence. I am not complaining at all as I also have a decent teacher's pension plus a small annuity. So my main pension income is index linked for life. I need to pay the any outstanding NI voluntarily for Year 47 after April when they have worked out how much I owe, as I was employed for 3 months of the 2023/2024 tax year. Hopefully, it wont take them too long to update their records as my first state pension payment is due in the second half of July.

    Course I don’t mind 😊 -

you know the three years that get added onto  NI contributions - think they are called youth or young years something like that for 16,17&18 years of age (unless one is already working and paying NI)?

Well I didn’t spend those teenage years in the UK but rather overseas - so my NI statement of full years of contributions is off by 3 years.  It actually states I have 3 more years of full contributions than I do. 😓

I guess their logarithm automatically adds the 3 years assuming and not checking one was actually in the UK in those teen years.

And I feel like a complete idiot for not noticing.  Think my poor OH is a bit disappointed in me but hasnt said so bless.

so almost 7 more years to go for me instead of less than 4.  There’s worse things I know sorry I’m moaning about it xx thanks for asking tho I feel better getting it off my chest xx

  • I have ni credits from age 16 to 18 when I was in full time education doing A levels and working part time. I then did a 12 month “YTS” type employment and then some time unemployed before starting full time in Oct 88. The year 86/87 says I have £35.43 from employment and 59 weeks NI credits (?) I have no idea if these details are correct. I just assumed their records are correct.

  • That’s awful SQS but have you checked with them? I just saw an article which says “So as not to discourage those who studied abroad, you did not even have to be in the UK to benefit from starting credits.”
