    Rufus,

Thanks for posting and clarifying that we are all posting "thanks" on a thread where you wanted to complain about people saying "thanks for this". We have not really gone off topic, but we might be taking up a little bit of disk space that you were concerned about in your original post.

Did you send anyone the Mars bar? Thanks if you did.

    Thanks again. ;D

    >>Did you send anyone the Mars bar? Thanks if you did.

I was going to, but they didn’t have any at the chemist I was in.

    >>Thanks if you did.

Don’t mention it - if you hadn't we wouldn’t be here.

    >>This is my way of VENTING ;) we are ALL entitled to. :P

absolutely Pat_ and isn’t free speech on the Internet just wonderful.

And in your reply you've joined the distinguished list of users that didn’t read the post properly.

Free speech is wonderful, but so is being courteous and polite & tactful not tactless. ;)
And as regards to your remark on how many posts appear under our user names, is it such a big thing to you half of us don't even notice how many posts we have made until someone else points it out to us :-/

Oh and Rufus I did read the post correctly. ;)

I like to thank people especially when some go out of their way to find information or whatever that you need.

And disk space who cares, it doesn't have to stay there long, I'm sure we all do our clean up on our PC's, disk cleanup & defrag etc.
Perhaps you were just having an off day when you started this thread ??? did someone forget to Thank You for something.
As for dial up people I know it will be slow sometimes but they persevere as they enjoy the site.
This is not intended to cause you any offence Rufus, so please just enjoy the site. :)

A lot people are going onto broadband now anyway as prices are very reasonable and most people are in an area to get broadband now as the demand is getting even greater for it. ;)

OK, that was a throw away remark - tongue in cheek kind of thing. If I thought that this thread would attract 1461 views I wouldn’t have said it, and I apologise to all you EverSoRegular MoneySavers.

I'm still concerned by the replies I'm getting, as the basis of your comments seem to be based on manners. However - and I can’t stress this enough - my point had nothing to do with manners. I am not for a second suggesting that we don’t say please and thank you. Trust with me, no one gets madder than when they swipe through your goods at the supermarket checkout, take your chip and pin payment and end the transaction without even making eye contact.

My point is purely from a practical point of view - I just think a lot of threads would be made user friendly if the content was kept relevant.

Yes, it's very easy to manage your own PC and tidy it up once in a while and yes, disk space is cheap as chips these days - I've got a terabyte (1,000 Gigabyte) of space now which I bought for under £350, my first PC at University 10 years ago had a 750mb drive and cost twice that !!!
I don’t know the volume of traffic MSE is currently recording, and While a majority wont be posting on chat forums, I certainly wouldn’t want to have to tidy up after the minority that do.

I am currently involved in work just now on the updated Disability Discrimination Act. This covers the internet and how accessible it is for disabled users. I have been stunned by some of the assumptions large organisasation have made when designing their on line portals which have rendered their material useless to disabled people. If people with visual impairments are using MSE - and I sincerely hope they are - they may find when their text reading browser starts repeating 'thanks for this' 'or yummy yummy, on my way to get one' they might get a bit fed up and move on - which would be a great shame as there is heaps of good advice and discussion on this site.

    >> Perhaps you were just having an off day when you started this thread Huh did someone forget to Thank You for something.

Not at all - I thought it was a fair point I made. I intended to make it, and skip off. However, when replies started coming in that I was encouraging people to be discourteous, I thought it necessary to come back and clarify what I was trying to say.

Hi Rufus, Please don't be angry but thank you for a lovely reply. :)

I understand the disabled line as I am disabled myself, when my steroid injections don't work, but not doing so bad at the moment :D

So thanks Rufus for a very pleasant reply, almost want to give you a hug, but I will probably get electricuted ;D

( arms round computer with no sides on - as just had DVD writer fitted ) ;D
  • on the fence as i see all sides but sometimes the threads and the replies having nothing to do with the original post become irelivant as some people are very funny, I feel I know alot of people from their remarks or comments.

Just as an aside why not have a thank you forum???
I wished upon a star tonight that I would see you once more,
To hold you in my arms and tell you how much I love you,
To hear your voice, to kiss your cheek oh for just one more time,
But all I have are memories and a heart full of love and tears.
