People that post to say "thanks for this&quot

I added this 'vent' to a thread before, but I now feel compelled to post separately.

My annoyance is with people that post a message on the MSE to say 'thanks for this'

I know this is mean spirited but do the people posting the tip need or want to hear this feedback..?? These messages will undoubtedly take up disk space, and this may eventually effect the chat rooms performance. Also, it renders the 'last updated' functionality pretty much redundant, when last updated is a comment to say “thanks for this”.

unless of course its something to do with the number of posts you've had being displayed under your user name…..

PS – a mars bar for the first post that says “thanks for this” in reply to my message.

Are you referring to the freebies or grab it while you can boards?
When I first joined I sent of for loads of freebies, Quite a lot never arrived. Unfortunately I don't remember the ones I sent off for, so now don't know whether to start again or whether it's a case of they won't turn up. At least if I'd posted thanks on the thread I'd have a record of which items I'd sent for.

Thanks for this ;D..............but can I have a Trix Twix instead?

I wondered when you'd start to post as Rufus T Firefly, instead of Rufus T.

I'm guilty as charged. I started a thread recently to say thanks to Fran for her tidying up of the techie board. People can be quick to criticise and moan, I think it's important to say thank you and well done. ;)

?? what do ya mean ??

I've seen it on pretty much all the boards I visit - as I said I'm aware its mean spirited of me to say it, but when someone has just posted a tip, is it really necessary to post a thanks ??

Granted, if someone has spent a great deal of time, then of course it is courteous to say thanks (unless of course you do my job, where no thank is ever afforded…)

You can have any piece of confectionary of equal value – I’ll e-mail it as an attachment.

    long discussions about this recently

I am inclined to agree with you Rufus - I feel it slows down the site as a whole, but I also acknowledge that you can't please all of the people all of the time so I have no idea how a happy solution could be met.

    pmsl.

anyway, my two penneth worth is common manners means you should say please and thank you. i do everywhere else in life and feel its only right to say it in here too. how do other people know if somethings been a help to others unless we tell them. manners cost nothing, and i'd rather have them than be without them.

    malteasers for me though!!
  • I agree totally, thanks for that ;D
