My donor account cards are supposed to arrive in the next couple of days, so I’m preparing for the application processes.

I intend to switch into all 3 Ulster NatWest and RBS. For RBS however, can I use the old form and then put in the child’s sort code, and then still switch and receive the switch bonus please? Unsure if they’d say, oh, you switched into child’s not RBS etc. I know Child’s is an RBS brand though. Has anyone been successful in doing this please?

Just out of interest how do they know if you applied before? By name and DoB? If your address has changed would it be possibly to apply again and qualify for the switch bonus?

I'm glad I checked this thread. I'd assumed based on the Ts and Cs I wouldn't be benefiting from this round of offers due to enjoying an RBS incentive a few months ago. I'll give NatWest a crack and hope today isn't the day they clamp down...
Transferred the money over on 6th April. Today was the 5th working day since then by my count, but nothing yet... but the switch has completed.

    Arrived this morning!

After considering the number of hard searches carried out in a few short days, I've decided to do the following once my donor cards have arrived:

    • Switch Bank of Scotland or Nationwide into new Ulster Bank
    • Switch Santander into existing RBS
    • Switch Metro Bank into existing NatWest

I'm unsure whether to switch BoS or Nationwide - I lean towards Nationwide, because I've had accounts with them for longer, and hold more with them than with Lloyds Banking Group. But, if I wanted another flex account at a later date, these require a hard search, but the BoS account does not.

A few months down the line, I may open a Child's and Co account but this will be separate from these current plants. If the switch goes wrong, I want everything to be completely above board, and not use an old form or anything that may harm my chances of receiving the bonus, if they have to investigate to see why I wasn't paid (if I wasn't).

All of my donor accounts have been opened in the past week, but I don't really have much of a choice - it makes no sense to switch accounts I've had open for years, as these will supposedly support my credit file.

For any new switcher offers that come out shortly, I'll ensure that I use different providers for the donor accounts, so I don't come up as a repeat switcher out of any individual banking group.

As a new customer to Ulster Bank, when can I expect access to the app please? Do I get given the sort code and account number online straight after application, and therefore I can use the app straight away, or would I have to wait till I'd signed and returned the forms etc. Just thinking as I could use CORA in the app, to neatly retain the transcripts.

Also, has anyone had any success dropping Ulster Bank forms into a NatWest branch, or is this a bad idea as they may claim the switch was requested in branch?

    Thanks

    Hello ...

As a new customer to Ulster Bank, when can I expect access to the app please?
It took 14 days before I could access the app and perform transfers. A £1,000 transfer out limit was imposed initially so although I transferred £1,250 in it took two days to transfer back, doing things online (under Windows) was not available at the time, needing activation via a code and the receipt of the UB card reader.

Do I get given the sort code and account number online straight after application
No - it will take about 14 days when you can log in to the app with your customer number sent to you by e-mail

would I have to wait till I'd signed and returned the forms etc
Yes - form received after 3-5 days ... sign it and check the printout of your application details and include that in the envelope - welcome e-mails received after about a week.

Also, has anyone had any success dropping Ulster Bank forms into a NatWest branch
A couple of people took forms and ID to a branch with mixed results ... posts are either in this thread or the specific Ulster Bank switch thread ... however ID is not necessary and I suggest just use the form and envelope. UB are idiosyncratic and in practice have little connection with NW and RBS.

You will need to register to use the app with three bits of information, from memory ... customer no., pin and password characters and you then create a passcode to login with ... if I remember correctly.

Thank you so much @dealyboy - that is really helpful and comprehensive :)

Re the ID, if they get me to upload it during the application through HooYu, I won’t post it off too. If they don’t, I’ll get NatWest to certify it, and then I’ll send it off. That’s just to cover me from my CRA issues (not found on them yet, so cannot be electronically verified)

I’ve decided in the end I’ll switch the nationwide rather than the BoS - yes it incurs a hard search at application, but BoS feels like more of a risk.

I got my NatWest and RBS details right away when I applied as a new customer, at the end of my application. But Ulster seems to be much more old fashioned.

They don't require ID ... no HooYu used or documents required. I have not read one case where UB explicitly asked for ID, but there is a deal of confusion because it would appear that they have reused and modified an old process where some things don't make sense.

I would recommend you to not provide ID or involve NatWest at branch level unless they explicitly ask for it, rather than just imply it as in their standard letter and ppe. In my long experience asking somebody to do something which is not required and outside their experience does not end well.

I think most of the people on here will have been electronically verified by Ulster. But given I don’t show on CRAs yet, how would they verify me if I didn’t provide ID? I feel like they would just re-request documents and it’d cause further delays
